After lots of searching I settled on this model for my 10 month old boy. He's still a little young for this but will grow into it. This is the perfect design for young kids and is well made - in Israel. The pitch is excellent and the design is sturdy. Rounded edges are nice and safe and the kid can't pry off any of the notes. It gets dropped a lot. The mallot is just what you want too, as they will stick it in their mouth and run around with it, so you don't want the standard stick. Worth the exra money!

In many ways this is a great toy, we like the sound, weight, bright colours BUT the mallet is VERY DANGEROUS for small babies, especially those teething who will stick everything in their mouths. Although the edges are rounded that will not prevent the ends getting STUCK in your baby's mouth. While happily playing and chewing my nine month old got the end of the mallet JAMMED between the roof and bottom of his mouth. Horrible experience, fortunately he was fine but it could easily have become a real nightmare. DO NOT GIVE THE MALLET TO BABIES. Save this toy for when chewing and exploring with the mouth are long over.

We got this toy for my son when he was 6 months old and he was immediately taken with it. He was even more taken with the mallet, which he wanted to chew on constantly. We played the xylophone for him initially, which he really enjoyed, but he quickly picked up on the idea and tried to play it himself. He figured out within a couple of weeks that his beloved mallet was stored on the back of the xylophone and he'd crawl over to it, flip it over, and yank the mallet off the back so he could chew on it. Now he does that and often flips the toy back over so he can "play" it himself. The notes are clear and sound great, perfect volume and tone for a baby toy. We are really happy with this purchase and feel like it will be enjoyed for many years to come.

My grandson, almost one year old, loves this toy. He has finally learned how to hold the mallet properly to get the sound he heard me making with it. He creates musical tones by himself, and seems fascinated when I play tunes that are familiar to him. He also likes to use the mallet to make sounds on the heat vent cover, which is okay, I guess.

What I as an adult like about it, aside from the enjoyment he receives by playing it, is that the tones are fairly quiet, so he doesn't disrupt conversation in the room; and, the mallet easily attaches to the bottom of the xylophone so it doesn't get lost.

This xylophone was the perfect size for my 1 yr. old. The wand to hit the xylophone is not too heavy or big for my daughter, so she really enjoys playing with it and toting it around. My husband actually bought a bigger one and brought it back because it was too big and heavy for our daughter. I would recommend this to anyone with a child under 2 years old.

I was not impressed with this product. It had a very wooden sound. Didn't sound very " musical " to me.
