I wasn't sure what this would be like,,, I had never heard of an ocean wave drum but my[...] grandson loved it from the moment we opened it. It's excellent quality for the price and the beads inside really add a nice sound effect to the drum.

I bought this toy for my two and a half years old triplets to do a pretend play as a marching band. It is fun to see the beads jumping up when they hit the surface. It is also very durable, so even if my triplets stand on the surface, the surface have not yet torn. The only downside may be it is hard to remove the drum stick off from the yellow stick holder. When they try to remove it the whole yellow stick holder tends to come out, but not a stick. Still, it does not seem to be bothering them, as the drum works just fine also by using their hands.

I have been looking for this drum for about a year and a half. Finally, a friend got it at Gymboree, so I came online and looked and found it cheaper here. My son adores this drum and the connector that connects the stick to the drum is a great asset. Thanks!

When you slowly shift the beads in this drum from side to side it really DOES sound like the ocean! I love it! It's adorable and well made. A+

My 18 mo old daughter loves this. She likes to watch the little plastic balls inside dance around when she beats the drum. Very durable, can even be stepped on.

2 1/2 year old and 9 month old love it. Very cute detail on the inside and the kids love tapping on it (it is not an annoying sound).

I bought this as part of a preschool percussion kit, on a recommendation for good drums for kids. I had to look up what an ocean wave drum was, and found this one to be the best value for what I was looking for.

Pros:
It's the perfect size for kids hands.
It makes a really neat sound.
The pattern on the inside is cute and engaging.
The balls on the inside are full of static and dance and move on their own, which is fun.

Cons:
The mallet that comes with the drum is as far as I'm concerned, an unnecessary annoyance.
The clip falls off the side of the drum easily.
It is almost impossible for a child to put the drumstick away and take it out.
The sound of the drum is much more interesting without the drumstick.
It feels like it's made out of really cheap plastic.

Because the clip comes right off and you can just toss the mallet, I'd have given this drum 5 stars if it didn't feel so cheap and flimsy. I have doubts about its longevity in the preschool classroom, but I don't think that it was intended for institutional use.

Two and four year old both enjoy this toy, and I like the educational aspects, plus, no batteries. Nice quality as well.

This is a great drum!! My son loves it! I haven't one of my sons friends come into the house and not love it! It is loud as the balls roll and shake, but still great!

My little one is a bit small for the eye hand coordination it takes to beat this drum just yet, but she is getting there. She loves to tap on it with her hands. I think the drum is fun and entertaining. The one down side is that it doesn't make much of a sound. I expected more of a thump, when we got more of a thud. I guess it makes some sense to tone down the sounds of baby's toys, but then my daughter goes over and raps on her metal trash can with some toy instead, because it makes quite the racket. We bought the drum to make up for the trash can. Guess we can't beat it for noise.
