Product Description

Edward of Woodstock, Prince of Wales, KG (15 June 1330 - 8 June 1376), popularly known as the Black Prince, was the eldest son of King Edward III of England and Philippa of Hainault, and father to King Richard II of England. Although Edward is almost always now called the "Black Prince", there is no record of this name being used during his lifetime. He was instead known as Edward of Woodstock, after his place of birth. The "Black Prince" sobriquet "is first found in writing in Richard Grafton's "Chronicle of England" (1568.) [1] Its origin is uncertain; according to tradition, it derived from an ornate black cuirass (piece of body armour) presented to the young prince by Edward III at the battle of Crécy. The blade is 440 stainless steel machine made with a double false edge. The sword hangs quite nicely by a wooden plaque that we will provide for you free. The handle is ABS plastic. The pommel and hilt are both metal, painted with the Kings of Englad Coat of Arms.
