More About the Author

Harold Billings has spent seventy years among libraries, books and book people. He served for twenty-five years as director of General Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin. In 2002 the American Library Association awarded him its annual Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award for his "long commitment to innovation in automation, resource sharing, and creative management." He received the 2006 Morley-Montgomery Memorial award from the Baker Street Irregulars for his essay, "The Materia Medica of Sherlock Holmes." He is the author of Magic and Hypersystems: Constructing the Information Sharing Library; M. P. Shiel: A Biography of His Early Years; M. P. Shiel: The Middle Years 1897 - 1923 (a finalist for the best nonfiction book of the 2012 British Fantasy Society Convention); Texas Beast Fables; A Dead Church; A Bibliography of Edward Dahlberg; and editor of The Leafless American and Edward Dahlberg: American Ishmael of Letters, among other books and award-winning bookish articles.
