Book Description

April 4, 1998 3 and upP and up

Edward the emu was sick of the zoo,
There was nowhere to go, there was nothing to do,
And compared to the seals that lived right next door,
Well being an emu was frankly a bore.

Tired of his life as an emu, Edward decides to try being something else for a change. He tries swimming with the seals. He spends a day lounging with the lions. He even does a stint slithering with the snakes.

But Edward soon discovers that being an emu may be the best thing after all. And so he returns to his pen, only to find a big surprise awaiting him. . . .

Edward is tired of being an emu, so he decides to try being something else for a change. First he spends some time swimming with the seals. Next, he lounges with the lions. He even slithers with the snakes. But Edward soon discovers that being an emu may not be so bad after all. So he heads back to his pen, only to find a big surprise awaiting him . . .Sheena Knowles' upbeat, rhyming text and Rod Clement's deliciously droll illustrations are sure to make readers laugh out loud in this whimsical picture book by the creators of Edwina the Emu."If you buy one book...for sheer fun, there's no question it should be this one." 5.0 out of 5 stars Kids love it!, October 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Edward the Emu (Paperback)
I am a school teacher and over the years I have read this book to hundreds of children of primary age. They have all loved it. The story line is amusing and the illustrations are fantastic. It is good to use with younger children and get them to predict what the next part of the story is going to be. I was very pleased to see that this book is still in print as I have had over 10 years of fun out of it already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edward the Emu is a delightful children's book., February 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Edward the Emu (Paperback)
Edward the Emu was tired of the Zoo and tired of being an emu. The book chronicles Edward's attempts at being something he is not - a seal, a lion, a snake etc. The illustrations are hilarious and the story captivates both old and young alike. This book is a perfect springboard in the classroom, and can be used as a prelude to a curriculum emphasis on positive self-image. So that all children realise that even though everyone is different, they are still a worthwhile and productive person, no matter what !

5.0 out of 5 stars Edward the Emu wants to be everything except himself., December 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Edward the Emu (Paperback)
This is a delightful story about an emu who thinks being himself just isn't enough. In this book we spend several days with Edward as he tries to make himself more acceptable to others. He finally discovers that being himself is the best thing he can do. This book is a wonderful resource for teaching self-concept to young children, while at the same time offering an entertaining adventure for the older child. It is a must for all children's libraries.
