A critical yet affectionate account, January 17, 2011
This review is from: Edward McGuire, Rha (Art & Architecture) (Hardcover)
Described by the author as the finest Irish portraitist of his generation, and possibly the finest since John Butler Yeast this critical yet affectionate biography includes a selection of Edward McGuire's work and a catalogue compiled by the artist's widow. The book also includes a bibliography and index.
This is a very readable account that follows Edward McGuire from his childhood to his untimely death in his 50s, and includes quotations and recollections from those how knew him.
Some fifty six monochromes including some period photographs and seventeen full-colour plates of the artist's portraits, which include some familiar names from the 1960s and 70s, along with nine still-life paintings complete this slim volume.
