5.0 out of 5 stars Fibbin' Fudwuppers Batman!
Fannie Fudwupper's big brother is no ordinary big brother. Some little boys are good at baseball or basketball, but Edwurd's talent lies in his ability to craft the most outrageously creative fibs ever. One day he goes too far. He tells a fib so fantastic, so far-fetched, that it sends everyone--including the dog catcher, the air force, and even those two galaxies...

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Kindle Port
Customer Video Review     Length:: 1:52 Mins
One of my favorite children's books, but it just didn't work well on the kindle. For children's books I prefer text mixed with pictures (vs. alternating between them) and this book didn't do that very well. I will rate the paperback version 5 stars.

Fannie Fudwupper's big brother is no ordinary big brother. Some little boys are good at baseball or basketball, but Edwurd's talent lies in his ability to craft the most outrageously creative fibs ever. One day he goes too far. He tells a fib so fantastic, so far-fetched, that it sends everyone--including the dog catcher, the air force, and even those two galaxies down--into a panic. Has the damage been done? Will Edwurd face certain punishment? Read the book, and find out. I did, and found a new favorite kids book! The wonderful illustrations and text come together to make a laugh-out-loud story for kids and adults. And parents will love the message--honesty IS the best policy.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Surprise At Our Surprise Party, September 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big (Hardcover)
My son had his sixth birthday party yesterday and one of the presents was this book. Never having been a comic strip reader, I was unfamiliar with the author but found each page to be more engagaing and amazing than the one before. It's a very witty story but the jaw-dropping, realistic-yet-fantastic three-deminsional paintings had us spending more time on the picturs than the words. We read it not once, not twice, but three times last night. In just 24 hours we've become full-blown fans of this author and I just orderd two other books. Bet the Amazon.com stock bounces back just by people like me buying other Berkley Breathed children's books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another hilarious work of art!, June 25, 2001
This review is from: Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big (Hardcover)
Edwurd Fudwupper is the greatest of liars, and who would know better that his sister Fannie? Edwurd's fibs become bigger (and more effective), until he finally comes to the attention of a certain someone--a someone he would rather not come to the attention of. Only one thing can save Edwurd now, the love of a sister he had not deigned to notice before.

Berkeley Breathed has produced another hilarious work of art! My seven-year-old son insisted on reading this book to me, not once, but three times straight through! The story is hilarious, and the illustrations have the right amount of kookiness to make the story funnier still. If you have children, then you must get this book. (If nothing else, to see the fate of poor Mabel Dill!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, April 28, 2002

I bought this book for my sister in law, who is the Fannie to my husband's Edwurd. Whoever wrote that this story is detrimental to young girls is foolish. This story is about a young girl who wishes her brother would notice her, and for all his faults, she loves hime. Enough to fib for him so he wouldn't get into trouble. Well, they BOTH wind up in the corner, and it brought tears to my eyes. Breathed has NEVER written a story detrimental to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and beautiful, December 18, 2000

As a fan of Breathed's "Bloom County", I felt the urge to buy this book for my four years old daughter. She, her sister, her mother and her father love it.

The story is narrated by a frustrated girl who receives no attention from her brother "Edwurd", the biggest liar alive. One day, one of his lies goes too far, bringing even an upset creature from "just two galaxies down".

The illustrations are gorgeous, with the usual funny style of Breathed, in which characthers look as stretched by superior forces.

Regarding a complaint from another reviewer, here is the discussed dedication: "The author wishes to thank President Bill Clinton, without whose daily inspiration this particular story just plain wouldn't have come to mind".

That's it. I will not call it a "political statement", but just plain humor.

Highly recommended.

This is a once a week reader with a great message and excellent pictures. I have 3 boys and this is a book they all enjoy, and I enjoy reading to them again, and again, and again...

5.0 out of 5 stars not really a political statement, December 19, 2000

Here is the text of the dedication: "For Alyson"

What the person below is probably talking about is a short amount of text just above the copyright notice, "The author wishes to thank President Bill Clinton without whose daily inspiration this particular story just plain wouldn't have come to mind." Personally, I wouldn't categorize that as a political statement (excepting that it refers to a politician). If one's children are old enough to notice this, and old enough to wonder at its relevance... then surely they already know about the fib Mr. Clinton made, and you will not find any further explanation necessary.

If you recall Mr. Breathed's comic strips (Bloom County, Outland), you will remember that he has always placed a small amount of political humor in there. Yet, as a child, I found them all the more amusing. This book (which carries no political humor), joins Mr. Breathed's long history of entertaining cartoonistry, which is loved by young and old alike. I would almost call him the next Dr. Suess... but I wouldn't want to get too medical.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love It, May 2, 2003

I ,unlike most of these reviewers, was not a fan of the cartoonist, infact, had never heard of him! I ordered this book with my 6 year old son in mind , and he absolutely loves this book! So much so, that I have also ordered "Goodnight Opus" and "The Last Basselope". I love the illustrations and so does my son. This is a fantastic boys book, if I could give it 6 stars I would, because my son loves it so much!My son took it to school and the principal has ordered it for the school library! I recommend it for children aged 5-8, maybe a little older, and of course their parents will also love it!THIS BOOK IS A CLASSIC!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars this book is awesome, February 16, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big (Hardcover)
Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big is about a boy who always lies and gets away with it but this time he fibbed way too big. For instance once he tells a lady that she has been voted queen of Brazil!

I liked this book because of some of the things he comes up with are funny. Another thing that's funny is the drawings because they are caricatures which is a drawing of something where the head is much bigger than the body. I think you should read this book if you need something to brighten up your day with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big, February 16, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big (Hardcover)
In Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big Edwurd lies to Merril Dill that she has been voted queen of Brazil! But when people have discovered she's missing he says, "Space Pigs came and kidnapped her," and they call in the troops. They point their big satellites toward space and say, "BRING MERRIL DILL BACK YOU SPACE PIGS!!!" And an alien with 3 eyes comes up and says, "who told you that fib their are no space pigs out here and who is this Merril Dill because whoever told you that fib I'll squash them flat with my flyswatter you hear." Everyone points at Edwurd but then his sister speaks up and says she did it and he tried to cover up for her with his lies. I think you should read this book because of the silly illustrations and silly things Edwurd says. I think it was a good book and it really made me laugh. I think you should read this book if you like hearing silly happenings in the world.
