5.0 out of 5 stars a great Halloween party book!
I have really enjoyed this book. I have been a big fan of Britta's Halloween work since I stumbled across her website several years ago searching for new Halloween decorating ideas. This book really expands on her website and teaches you interesting and frugal decorating ideas and it gets you excited about throwing your own Halloween party.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for recipes, that's about it...
This book was referred to me by a friend so I went ahead and purchased it.

I was disappointed after reading through about 3/4 of the book to find out that it was more of a diary of one woman's halloween parties over the years. She does go over some good information about party planning and such, but decoration ideas and ways to make the house "pop" are...

5.0 out of 5 stars a great Halloween party book!, September 19, 2008

I have really enjoyed this book. I have been a big fan of Britta's Halloween work since I stumbled across her website several years ago searching for new Halloween decorating ideas. This book really expands on her website and teaches you interesting and frugal decorating ideas and it gets you excited about throwing your own Halloween party.

If you wonder at all about how she accomplished all of her cool decorating feats on her website, then get the book! I have used some of her ideas and recipes at past Halloween parties and really got a lot of compliments. I especially liked the "witches fingers" cookies and the brain mold crab dip. This year I am attempting the "bleeding heart" jello mold.

If you are looking for a cool new Halloween party and decorating book, do yourself a favor and get this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, September 30, 2008
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
I am so happy that Britta wrote this book! She has generously shared her Halloween ideas on her website and has always kindly answered the few emails I've sent her in the past. Now, her knowledge and creativity are right at my fingertips. I adore this book. There are ideas for everyone, from the novice to experienced haunter. There were many time while reading the book that I thought to myself, "What a great idea. I would have never thought to do it like that!" Her descriptions and instructions are well written and easy to follow. I've been inspired by many of her Halloween decorations and recipes over the years, and now that I have to book, I see many more years of inspiration to come. Thanks, Britta!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of all the Halloween books I own, September 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
I found Britta's website about 5 years ago when searching for Halloween recipes and have visited often since.
When I found out she had published her Halloween book, I ordered it right away.
I was not disappointed as it is full of great ideas and easy to follow instructions. Over the years I have tried many of Britta's Halloween recipes and haunt ideas so was pleased to see many others that were not featured on her website.
I am pleased I added Britta's book to my collection as it is the best I have purchased to date.

New Mama (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
I do not know Ms. Peterson personally, but I have been a faithful follower for years of her website for all-things related to theme parties (Halloween, Mardi Gras, Harry Potter, Murder Mysteries). Around our house, she is known as "the Hostess with the Mostest," and we are always in awe at Ms. Peterson's creative genius, sheer energy (how does she do it?) and huge number of friends willing to play along with her themes in costume. At our large Halloween parties, the only people showing up in costumes are the kids and us, the hosts. I love my friends, but I have guest envy.

Better yet - if only we were friends of Ms. Peterson so that we might be invited to her parties!

Seriously, you cannot go wrong buying this book. It has all of her best ideas and recipes from her websites, and then some! Every idea or recipe that we have used from her website (now in the book) in the past had always engendered praise and compliments from our appreciative, but not-costumed friends. I own many Halloween decorating books, and this is one of the best - "Eerie Elegance" is the perfect description of the ambiance Ms. Peterson's ideas create.

Bravo to a job well done! Now, if only she would write a book on costume design and construction (she makes all of her own costumes!).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Halloween favourite!, September 25, 2008
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
This is a book I've been waiting for!
Halloween isn't such a big thing in Norway yet as it is in the States, so if we want to do it properly we have to look to the Americans for inspiration. Keeping track of dozens of websites, online magazines etc can be a pretty confusing affair, and quite often the things you find aren't very impressive. But Eerie Elegance is all about the good stuff. The decoration ideas are highly inspirational and the recipes are delicately gross, just like they should be for Halloween. What's more; the recipes translate relatively easily and most ingredients are available in supermarkets, even here.
But what I like the most about the book is the tone in which it is written. It is personal and real, and Britta Peterson comes across as a true lover of Halloween, who has written this not just to publish a bestseller but to communicate the satisfaction of creating the perfect Halloween party.

5.0 out of 5 stars Britta is our Ultimate Halloween Heroine!, October 10, 2008
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
Like others who have reviewed "Eerie Elegance", I have many Halloween party/decoration books, and I agree with the other reviewers - none come close to this one in sheer volume of ideas and inspiration. I couldn't wait 'til my shipment arrived and when it did, I didn't put this book down until I had read it from cover to cover. I also agree that Britta's style of writing is so easygoing and personable that it seemed as though I was sitting there conversing with a friend who was helping me to "haunt my house". Her website is great but now that I have everything bound together in one place it really makes it easier to choose and mark my favorite ideas and put them into action. If you're looking to choose a book to assist you in planning the ultimate Halloween happening, this is the one. You won't need to search any further.

This book was referred to me by a friend so I went ahead and purchased it.

I was disappointed after reading through about 3/4 of the book to find out that it was more of a diary of one woman's halloween parties over the years. She does go over some good information about party planning and such, but decoration ideas and ways to make the house "pop" are really lacking, and the things that she does explain are long-winded are self-explanatory.

The recipes in the back of this publication really make it was it is. Great ideas and easy to follow directions are nice.

I would say if you want some ghoulish recipes and food ideas, pick this up for a couple bucks. But if you're looking for decor ideas, look somewhere else.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overall Disappointed, September 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
When I purchased this book at this price point, I was confident that it would be both longer and have more decorating ideas. I was quite disappointed that I could only take away 2 new ideas from the entire text. Would not recommend this book to other Halloween party-throwers looking for some fun new ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only Halloween book you need!!!, October 10, 2008

This review is from: Eerie Elegance: How To Host A Haunt And Other Fabulous Frights (Paperback)
I was impressed with the information on Britta's website and was delighted to see that she wrote a book. I thought it was a little pricey for an 82 page book, but it was worth every penny and then some! The photos alone are inspirational, but the how-to's make the book invaluable. I'm throwing my first Halloween party this year and am incorporating a number of her recipes and ideas. I'll use this book as a reference for years to come.

My first un-regretted Halloween book purchase in a while. This is a fine example of how to self-publish: lots of clear, color photographs, and actual usable suggestions, projects and recipes. (Note -- I am not connected with the author in any way.) Here's a book that people planning Halloween parties for grown-ups (or older kids) could really put to use.
