"I have recommended Rathvon's book so many times, I stopped counting. This is a 'must-have' resource for school psychologists, teachers, and administrators for building your RTI toolkit. Rathvon helps us to navigate through successful evidence-based interventions in a very user-friendly format. This book is invaluable in offering research-supported, successful interventions while saving time (due to the easy-to-understand academic and behavioral interventions and step-by-step directions for implementation) and money (cost effective with 70 interventions provided). This is a highly valuable and very rare find as a school resource."--Paula Freer, PhD, President-Elect, Student Support Team Association for Georgia Educators
"This second edition is an essential book for professionals working with school-age children or consultants assisting classroom teachers. The empirical citations provided for each intervention will assist school personnel in the identification of RTI-compatible interventions. In addition, I highly recommend this text as a learning tool for graduate students in school psychology, special education, teacher education, and educational administration programs."--Merilee McCurdy, PhD, School Psychology Program, University of Nebraska-Lincoln
"Covering a broad range of important topics, including classroom management, classwide peer tutoring, vocabulary instruction, and comprehension, Rathvon uses a 'solid science' perspective to identify strategies that make a difference. This text is an invaluable resource for graduate students who are learning that, indeed, some interventions work much better than others to produce meaningful student outcomes. In addition, readers with little background in scientifically based academic and behavior interventions will find this book to be an excellent starting point."--Mark R. Shinn, PhD, Educational Psychology Program, National-Louis University

This review is from: Effective School Interventions, Second Edition: Evidence-Based Strategies for Improving Student Outcomes (Hardcover)
One of the best evidence-based school interventions book that I have read. Interventions are layed out step by step each with guidelines on how to monitor progress for the intervention. Many interventions are group interventions, but many can be adapted to individual students. This book is a must have for any individual/school wanting to have a resource on hand to help them implement evidence-based interventions as part of the RTI process.

This review is from: Effective School Interventions, Second Edition: Evidence-Based Strategies for Improving Student Outcomes (Hardcover)
No one contests the premise that education is the bedrock upon which the economic future of the American nation is founded. What varies among contesting views on education are what strategies and approaches are best to maximize student academic performance. Now in an newly expanded and updated second edition, "Effective School Interventions: Evidence-Based Strategies For Improving Student Outcomes" by Natalie Rathvon (Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychology at The George Washington University) is a comprehensive and scholarly study organized into two major sections: 'The Intervention Assistance Approach To Improving Student Outcomes' and 'Evidence-Based School Interventions'. This new edition has been expanded to include new features and resources including additional guidance on legal issues and ethics for practitioners who are part of team-based intervention assistance programs; a 'cross-reference box' to help readers locate strategies in other sections or chapters with similar components but different targets; 'Special topics sections' highlighting key concepts, critical issues, and best practices; an an appendix for each of the four intervention chapters helping readers in quickly locating appropriate strategies and comparing strategies within the same domains. Exhaustive, comprehensive, superbly organized and presented, this new edition of "Effective School Interventions" is a core and seminal addition to professional and academic library Educational Studies & Practices reference collections and reading lists.
