Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Passing away in 1989, Professor Otto Nuttli, whose entire career was served in the Department of Geophysics, St. Louis University, was considered the world's leading authority on the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12 and on the earthquake potential of all faults in the central U.S. in his lifetime. Among other accomplishments, he is the scientist who, after some twenty years of study of the historical and geological records, was able to deduce and assign Richter magnitudes to the temblors of 1811-12--values first published in 1973 in the Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, estimates still respected and in use today.

2.0 out of 5 stars insignificant pamphlet, November 24, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Effects of Earthquakes in the Central United States (Earthquake Series No 8) (Paperback)
this booklet only contains 50 pages, the pictures that show different earthquake damage effects are all of China, the charts and tables of information are the only thing interesting in this little pamphlet style booklet, much of this booklet centers on the New Madrid earthquake area, which, is in central U.S. but for the rest of the central U.S. there is very little info.It is true though, that, there is very little significant earthquake activity in the central U.S. that is of any interest, and I think this booklet costs too much for what you get.Much of the info in this book can probably be found in other more worthy books.
