Book Description

May 10, 1995 0419197907 978-0419197904 1st ed
Following the cessation of hostilities in Croatia, the task begins of assessing the damage caused and the remedial work needed. After several visits to the country on behalf of UNIDO, Mervyn Richardson has compiled a dossier detailing the effects of warfare on the environment. He discusses in detail the destruction of the Croation chemical industry and suggests ways in which new techniques will need to be used for remediation. Important aspects of the economy such as tourism and agriculture are also considered, and a contribution by Croatian scientists covers groundwater pollution caused by the destruction of an ammunition store. The book concludes with a look at the future possiblities for encouraging new industries to take the place of the old and gives a detailed breakdown of key Croatian agencies.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'A useful guide to Croatia's economy before and after the conflict, providing data and contact information that can be followed up by those wishing to participate in Croatia's reconstruction. Richardson's heartfelt sympathy for Croatia's plight is never in doubt.' - Chemistry in Britain

1.0 out of 5 stars I would really like to read this but...., January 20, 2011
the price is simply outrageous, in both print and kindle editions. Perhaps this is targeted at government and corporations which can afford the price. I would like the author and publisher to consider a version for the general public that is well below $100.
