I truly wish I could leave 0 star for this place that doesn't deserve to be called a business. Over 19 months ago, we submitted a ticket for password reset of our FTP access, multiple help tickets and phone calls, and 19 months later we STILL do not have FTP access. We thought about just abandoning it but then we would loose our entire inventory from the webstore. But i think we are finally to the point where we are going to abandon and reclaiming money that we have paid for it for the last 19 months.

whomever put "effortless" and "e-commerce" together must have a sick sense of humor.

i'm sure it will come in handy some day.

This book does exactly what it claims to do. It takes you through the steps needed to set up an e-commerce site from scratch. It is great for a hobbyist like me who wanted to develop a website as a side project, and make a little money off of it.

While I have done a lot of programming over the years, my experience with PHP and SQL is very limited. But with the clear directions in this book, I was able to adapt Ullman's examples to suit my needs, and get my paid subscriber-based website off the ground and running rather quickly. I could not be happier with this book; it was money well-spent.

If you are going to build an eCommerce site from the ground up, this book is for you. You should have some experience with php and know your way around mysql. Oh, it also helps to know a little about regular expression and db normalization.

Chapter 2 made it clear to me why all input fields need to be validated and read: this includes the url string. I'll be using Ullman's ideas in my next eCommerce application. The book doesn't take long to get through. I'll also be trying to hack my own site with cross site scripting, sql injections and denial of service attacks. His simple explanations of xss, sql injections and DoS were an eye opener. If he writes more about security, I'll probably buy that book too.

Wasn't crazy about Ullman's config file. To me, a config file should be variables and constants only, no code. Just a plain list of Key=Values. The book still gets a 5 star from me. This book motivates me to start coding again.

Thanks Ullman

Where the book is already outdated, the code should probably be updated from the site. Making it work isn't hard but if someone that had no experience was doing this, they might have a hard time.

Great book, explains a lot of very useful things that I tried to learn over the last year one by one. And here it is all neatly packed together. I highly recommend it.
