5.0 out of 5 stars Nice intermediate heli, January 28, 2007
This review is from: Eflite Blade CP Pro R/C Helicopter (Toy)
The Blade CPP is a good, responsive heli at an attractive price. This is only my third model helicopter, so I added training gear and flat-bottomed rotors to soften it a bit and help protect it from my goofs. I've been flying mine for a couple of weeks now and I really enjoy the added precision and outdoor performance compared to fixed-pitch helis in the same price range.

The heli is very lightly built of carbon fiber, aluminum and reinforced plastic bits. You have to preflight it when you get it to make sure everything is tight, but that's just proper procedure. Mine came out of the box balanced and adjusted almost perfectly, a very pleasant experience.

There are a lot of upgrade parts available for the Blade if you want to go that way, but the stock setup is pretty good. I suggest getting an extra battery pack, since they take about 1.5 hr to charge and I hate waiting. Other worthwhile upgrades include stronger motors and a heading-lock gyro, but those may not be helpful to you until you've gained some experience and start trying more advanced maneuvers.

Flight stability is medium, since it's an aerobatic bird. The priority for this heli seems to be responsiveness and maneuverability. It reacts immediately to control inputs and does not take well to overcontrolling, so hovering is a challenge to learn. Once you're comfortable with the quick response, it's easy to fly, but it takes practice to get there.

This is not a beginner heli without help unless you're an unusually quick learner. If you haven't flown RC helicopters before and just take it out and zoom into the air, you will crash, probably a lot. If you're still considering this for a starter, you should get a simulator like the excellent RealFlight G3.5 to practice on before you try the real thing (you will save much more than the cost of the simulator in repair parts you didn't have to buy). You'll be better off still if you look for an RC flying club in your area so you can mix and talk with others who can help you start off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Grat heli but NOT FOR BEGINNERS!!!, January 18, 2008

This is a great little microheli! The design is good and there are many upgrades for it. However, this is most certainly NOT a beginner heli. If you never touched an RC heli in your life DO NOT START WITH THIS ONE! (mine is currently a heap of helicopter parts awaiting more parts to fix it) As it is designed for 3d flight right out of the box it is extreemly responsive... In my case a bit too responsive. (not the fault of the product) The up side to my not so pleasant experiences with this heli is that it made it SOOOO much easier when I finally decided to get the Blade CX2 and start walking before trying to run! As other reviewers have said, IT IS NOT A TOY! I have a nice little gash in my hand to prove it! (DUH! don't try to catch a flying helicopter) With the brushless upgrade the blades turn EXTREEMLY fast! so be careful with this one! Mine almost killed me twice! (again, no fault to the heli) Overall a very nice heli (when in the hands of a somewhat experienced pilot) It does what it says it does and looks pretty sharp doing it! (even the crashes were fairly spectaculer untill I realised how much each one costed me :-P) 4 stars for this one ( would be 4 and a half but they won't let me do that) Very cool hobby!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value helicopter, June 17, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Eflite Blade CP Pro R/C Helicopter (Toy)
This is a good deal on a great helicopter. Similar helicopters at the local hobby store sell for at least $50 more. I didn't have any bad experiences on shipping, the package was shipped cross the country and the box and all components were in great shape. This is definitely not something to buy if you don't have at least some experience with hobby-grade remote controlled models. Probably don't want to buy this if, at the VERY LEAST, you don't have access to someone who can help you tune the helicopter and trouble shoot for you before you start trying to fly. Out of the box, it is not going to be 100% ready to fly, even if the box says so. Overall, very impressed with the quality and value of this product.
