I know this is a silly looking gadget but I LOVE IT and you will, too!! I love to cook and entertain but I have always hated boiling and peeling eggs. I have tried everything to get the 'perfect' boiled egg...start them off in cold water with a little vinegar, boil 15 minutes, into the ice water, blah, blah, blah...still, even when they're boiled perfectly, half the time I can't get them peeled without tearing them up. However, my kids LOVE deviled eggs so when I saw the Egg Genie, I decided to give it a try. I can't believe how much I love it!! Not only are the eggs cooked exactly the way you want them every single time (whether soft, medium or hard boiled), they are also EASY TO PEEL!! I have never had a single one tear up. They just slide right out of the shell with absolutely no fuss. Now I don't mind making deviled eggs! I keep a half dozen boiled eggs in a baggie in the fridge and they're great to throw into salads or to grab for a low-carb snack. My sister has fallen in love with mine and wants one, too, so I came online to find one for her and decided to leave a review while I was on here. Two thumbs up from this girl!! :-)

I love soft boiled eggs and my family loves hard boiled eggs. Making hard boiled eggs by boiling them in water in a pot is not an issue except that they sometimes crack but I was rarely making soft boiled eggs because it's a pain to get them right. The Egg Genie changed all that - boiling eggs of any consistency is easy and mostly successful. If you follow the directions and use the right amount of water, the eggs are perfect each time. One exception is soft boiling eggs after hard boiling eggs without allowing the unit to cool down. This tends to produce under-cooked soft boiled eggs but this is understandable and I learned my lesson after the first time. I would have given the Egg Genie 5 stars if not for the following. First, the base of the pin to pierce the eggs is too wide. It's almost impossible to make a tiny enough hole as when you press the egg on the pin it tends to travel all the way to the base of the pin. This produces a hole that's too big and results in egg white escaping from the hole. Using my own pin as I always have eliminates this problem but is not as convenient. Second, even distilled water leaves significant deposits on the aluminum plate, even after hard boiling only 3 eggs. Scrubbing with vinegar gets rid of them but is once again inconvenient. So in summary, the Egg Genie is not a perfect product but is a good product at a great price, and I'm thrilled that making soft boiled eggs is no longer a crap shoot.

We have the normal white-base, clear-dome, egg-shaped Egg Genie, unlike another yellow-base Egg Genie seen on a YouTube video.

We love our little egg-shaped unit. Our Egg Genie saves us from boiling exploding eggs on the stovetop. The instructions are fool-proof if you follow them correctly. We thoroughly went over the instructions before using the unit and still goofed up by piercing the wrong end of the egg - pierced the wide end instead of the narrow end yet they still cooked fine! The machine is designed to put the wider end of the eggs down rather than pointed end down so that the eggs don't touch the heating element below and burn.

We followed the suggestion to use distilled water. A gallon jug will last for months because so little water is needed to cook with and distilled water leaves less mineral deposit to clean up off the burner element.

After cooking is done, the monotone buzzer will sound constantly for about a minute and a half. Ours eventually shuts off automatically so we have to be sure to respond to the unit when it sounds off. It definitely can be heard from the other rooms. We keep our machine plugged into an adapter that has a lighted on/off switch that is used to turn off the machine when it buzzes so we don't have to plug/unplug it all the time - just switch the adapter off when it buzzes.

To make sure our Jumbo eggs are cooked through, we let them sit an extra minute or so after shutting the machine off before lifting the cover to remove them. Next, take the HB eggs out of the Genie using cushioned rubber tongs and immediately cool them in very cold water. We have chickens and their fresh eggs hard boil beautifully in this cooker with no green tinge on their golden yolks when they're quickly cooled.

Amazing! I was very skeptical about buying the Egg Genie due to the lack of reviews, but I am so glad I did! I hate boiling eggs. It's just such a hassle, most of the time I forget that I'm even boiling eggs. I have used my Egg Genie at least once a week. I have only tried to hard boil my eggs, I haven't tried the soft, medium or poached yet. So I can't really review that aspect of it. But the hard boiled eggs come out perfect every time. The yolk comes out a very pretty yellow and they are super easy to peel. I love that you can cook 1 or 7 eggs at a time too. It's such a timesaver and it buzzes when it's done. It's just my husband and I at home so alot of the time we don't eat a whole carton of eggs and they usually go bad and we end up throwing them, but now I just watch the expiration date and we boil them the day before they go bad and eat them for breakfast. Really cool! I love my Egg Genie and I highly recommend it!
