5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect eggs EVERY time!!
I know this is a silly looking gadget but I LOVE IT and you will, too!! I love to cook and entertain but I have always hated boiling and peeling eggs. I have tried everything to get the 'perfect' boiled egg...start them off in cold water with a little vinegar, boil 15 minutes, into the ice water, blah, blah, blah...still, even when they're boiled perfectly, half the time...

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm still looking for an egg cooker to replace the Salton that lasted for years & years.
The first time I used this one, some egg white oozed to the bottom(because the poaching cups are too small to hold one egg). Even after cleaning, every time I use it, water burns on the bottom, along with a burning smell, & there are stains that won't completely clean-up. It makes perfect hard-boiled eggs. I haven't tried soft-boiled yet. My favorite is poached, but...

I know this is a silly looking gadget but I LOVE IT and you will, too!! I love to cook and entertain but I have always hated boiling and peeling eggs. I have tried everything to get the 'perfect' boiled egg...start them off in cold water with a little vinegar, boil 15 minutes, into the ice water, blah, blah, blah...still, even when they're boiled perfectly, half the time I can't get them peeled without tearing them up. However, my kids LOVE deviled eggs so when I saw the Egg Genie, I decided to give it a try. I can't believe how much I love it!! Not only are the eggs cooked exactly the way you want them every single time (whether soft, medium or hard boiled), they are also EASY TO PEEL!! I have never had a single one tear up. They just slide right out of the shell with absolutely no fuss. Now I don't mind making deviled eggs! I keep a half dozen boiled eggs in a baggie in the fridge and they're great to throw into salads or to grab for a low-carb snack. My sister has fallen in love with mine and wants one, too, so I came online to find one for her and decided to leave a review while I was on here. Two thumbs up from this girl!! :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, could be better, July 26, 2009

I love soft boiled eggs and my family loves hard boiled eggs. Making hard boiled eggs by boiling them in water in a pot is not an issue except that they sometimes crack but I was rarely making soft boiled eggs because it's a pain to get them right. The Egg Genie changed all that - boiling eggs of any consistency is easy and mostly successful. If you follow the directions and use the right amount of water, the eggs are perfect each time. One exception is soft boiling eggs after hard boiling eggs without allowing the unit to cool down. This tends to produce under-cooked soft boiled eggs but this is understandable and I learned my lesson after the first time. I would have given the Egg Genie 5 stars if not for the following. First, the base of the pin to pierce the eggs is too wide. It's almost impossible to make a tiny enough hole as when you press the egg on the pin it tends to travel all the way to the base of the pin. This produces a hole that's too big and results in egg white escaping from the hole. Using my own pin as I always have eliminates this problem but is not as convenient. Second, even distilled water leaves significant deposits on the aluminum plate, even after hard boiling only 3 eggs. Scrubbing with vinegar gets rid of them but is once again inconvenient. So in summary, the Egg Genie is not a perfect product but is a good product at a great price, and I'm thrilled that making soft boiled eggs is no longer a crap shoot.

5.0 out of 5 stars This thing really works!!!, August 12, 2009
This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
Amazing! I was very skeptical about buying the Egg Genie due to the lack of reviews, but I am so glad I did! I hate boiling eggs. It's just such a hassle, most of the time I forget that I'm even boiling eggs. I have used my Egg Genie at least once a week. I have only tried to hard boil my eggs, I haven't tried the soft, medium or poached yet. So I can't really review that aspect of it. But the hard boiled eggs come out perfect every time. The yolk comes out a very pretty yellow and they are super easy to peel. I love that you can cook 1 or 7 eggs at a time too. It's such a timesaver and it buzzes when it's done. It's just my husband and I at home so alot of the time we don't eat a whole carton of eggs and they usually go bad and we end up throwing them, but now I just watch the expiration date and we boil them the day before they go bad and eat them for breakfast. Really cool! I love my Egg Genie and I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have the english translation for the french instructions, August 17, 2011
This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
Usage: For soft-boiled eggs, medium-hard:

Note: Times vary by size and number of eggs to cook, temperature and quantity of water used, the altitude and how long the eggs will stay in the cooker once the cooking cycle complete (alarm).

1. Open the plastic cover. Remove the egg tray and set aside.

2. Fill the bottom of the aluminum plate with cold water (we recommend using distilled water to prevent stains on eggs) using the measuring cup provided for this purpose. The marks on the cup indicate the amount of water to pour over the aluminum plate to obtain the desired constitancy (hard, medium-hard or soft) and the number of boiled eggs (1-7)

3. Place the egg tray on the base of the unit.

4. WARNING: The steel rod on the egg tray is very sharp. using the steel rod located on the egg tray, make a small hole in the tapered end of each egg.

5. The egg tray holds up to 7 eggs. Place each egg in the pan, making sure the hole is facing up. Make sure the eggs are not in direct contact with the aluminum plate when depositing in the egg tray.

6. Make sure you have dry hands. Plug in the power outlet. The power indicator lights up. When the eggs are cooking, do not stand near the opening in the transparent plastic cover, as steam escapes during cooking.

7. When the water evaporates, the eggs should have obtained the desired consistency. The cooking time depends on the number of eggs to be cooked and the desired consistency.

8. Once the eggs are ready, a continuous buzzing sound is heard until the power is turned off (disconnected). Unplug the unit. NOTE: Always disconnect the device to avoid overcooking the eggs.

9. Let the unit cool down without removing the plastic cover.

10. When the unit has cooled, lift the clear plastic cover, be careful, as steam may escape from the device. Lift the tray from the sides. Do not touch the aluminum plate, as it may be hot.

11. Remove the eggs. Pass them under cold water. The eggs are now ready to be served.

1.0 out of 5 stars You Get What You Pay For, September 18, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
I purchased the Egg Genie to repalace the Oster egg poacher I had for over 35 years. Maybe it is an OK product to hard boil eggs - I did not try that yet, but for poaching eggs, it is horrible. I attempted and ruined eggs 3 separate times trying to poach. They came out raw and I had to throw them away. I followed the instructions. I should have trusted my instincts and spent the additional monies to buy an Oster since I know that is an excellent product. I give the Egg Genie a rating of less then 1 and will probably pitch it in the trash - this was a $20 waste of money!

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect eggs everytime!, July 25, 2009
This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
I received the egg genie as a present because i love hard boiled eggs in my salads and love poached eggs in the morning. I love that it's so easy and the eggs do come out perfectly. No more wondering if I used enough water in the pot for the amount of eggs I was boiling, etc.

However, if the poached eggs spill over a bit, it can be hard to clean, but a little elbow grease solves the problem!

Egg Genie is the best!

This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
This egg cooker worked great for a year. Then I noticed that the water was boiling away quicker and quicker. It actually got so hot that it burned the water and the eggs near that section. I used it 14 to 15 times and it became an electrical fire hazard. Out with the trash it went. What a waste of money.

I now have the Nordic Ware 64802 Microwave Egg Cookerand just love it. I am using it a lot more often than I used the EggGenie. I find it to be more convenient. No poking holes in the eggs is an added benefit. So, when your EggGenie bites the dust go with the Nordic Ware. You won't regret it. Read its reviews and see.

4.0 out of 5 stars I get perfect boiled eggs every time., April 4, 2010
This review is from: Egg Genie Electric Egg Cooker (Kitchen)
The Egg Genie works exactly as advertised for boiled eggs--it's incredibly easy with no watching for water to boil or figuring out how long to leave the eggs on the stove.

The first couple times I used it the eggs had a little bit of the grey film around the yolk, but adding just a tiny bit more water appears to solve the problem (fill the cup about halfway between the lines for 6 and 7 eggs if you're boiling 7 eggs). The eggs yolks come out a perfect yellow and the shells always peel off easily. I enjoy boiled eggs much more often than I used to because it's now so effortless.

I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because you have to stay near the device and listen for its buzzer (which isn't very loud) to know when to turn it off. Why doesn't it just shut itself off like a toaster would??
