Eggs a la carte,
By Kent (USA) - See all my reviews

What is Egg Mania? It's a platform/puzzle game where you try to build a tower upwards using Tetris-like pieces in race to beat your opponent to the top. This is a really clever idea, you have to admit that much. And there are many factors that make the game a little more difficult than random stacking, too, like stability and weapons and combos. I really think this is a cool and frantic game, BUT--- there is no fun in playing alone. The game is just too dry and frustrating for that. But this is one of my favorite games to play with another person. And I recommend keeping it as something different from all your other two-player games. I find it quite fun, myself, though the game has some obvious shortcomings (i.e. not enough depth or variety). -- Warning: my biggest problem with this game is its ridiculous load time. Before and after every round you have to sit through a good ten or fifteen seconds, and that's absurd for the Gamecube! Still... it's my favorite puzzle game to date. Here's to a sequel.

Kind of a boring Tetris in reverse.,
This review is from: Egg Mania: Eggstreme Madness (Video Game)
Another puzzle game for the GameCube brings another disappointment. In this one, you have to grab different shaped blocks and use them to build a structure upwards. You can discard pieces that you don't want to use and you also have the ability to use items such as bombs and hammers to destroy your opponent's structure. Ho hum. There is also another mode of play called Bomb mode. You and your opponent start out with structures already built. You throw bombs at each other to try to destroy all of the other's blocks. I got to the final level of the hardest difficulty simply by mashing the A button really fast. There is virtually no strategy to this mode of play. I think the problem with most GameCube puzzle games is that there is a high standard to beat with the introduction of the Super Monkey Ball series. Those are some truly entertaining and creative games to play if you want to have fun and use your brain. I would recommend skipping this title without even a rental.

not all its cracked up to be...,

this game isn't that great. it gets boring really fast. its sort of like tetris, but the reverse, you have to build a tower instead of getting rid of blocks...its more fun with more than one person, because you get to throw bombs at them, and in custom mode you have to build up and throw bombs, but it still gets old too fast. there should be more to it, more options and stuff.
