This is a great collection of visual material on ancient Egypt. I'm impressed with the entire Dictionary of Civilization series. Each book takes a large collection of photographs and covers them in historical footnotes. It's a great way to greet people through their visual culture. The book is also thorough going--more than 350 pages of material. A great introduction to ancient Egyptian culture and history.
