Book Description

November 27, 2004 Flying High
Photographed from the sky, riding above the few clouds that cross the country, Egypt shows the best of itself. The course of the Nile, which cuts the desert in two from north to south, and the enormous delta provide glorious, lush vegetation sliced by a deep blue band. The white sails that slide over its waters and the spectacular monuments that line its banks, the human ants-nest of Cairo, the pyramids and the sphinx, palm groves and fertile fields, geometrical patterns created by dry walls, and the ever-changing waves of the dunes in the desert: all of Egypt's magical panoramas and incomparable light are offered here, seen in the unaltered beauty of their millenary existence. This volume in the series Flying High presents the undisguised beauty of a country through the works of a photographer who specializes in aerial photography, either taken through the windows of a Piper or acrobatically hanging out the door of a helicopter. These books offer extraordinary reportage of the patterns, light, and colors of entire regions, which can be taken in at a single glance. Short texts introduce chapters dedicated to particular aspects of the country in question. Brief captions aid the reader in identifying the subjects photographed.

4.0 out of 5 stars My definitive book on Egypt, September 29, 2007

This review is from: Egypt (Flying High) (Hardcover)
I love books on Egypt, but most of them if not all cover constructions (pyramids, the Sphinx, temples) together with jewelry, tombs and so on.

Since my main interest is the constructions in all their strenght, this is THE book for it. Here you have nothing but palaces, temples, pyramids, deserts, riversides and of course the Sphinx featured on the cover, all gorgeously shot from the air either around 8:00 Am or near 18:00 Hrs. This makes for great aerial photography taken at the best hours of the day to enhance shape, volume and texture.

This is a book on Egypt as no other you have ever seen. The publication is very well done, good paper, excellent printing. My only wish is that someday they release a full-sized (coffee table) edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars stunning, April 28, 2011
This review is from: Egypt (Flying High) (Hardcover)
The author makes it known in the introduction to this book that he took over 20,000 photographs of Egypt from hot air balloons, planes, and helicopters for this book; his care, discrimination and outstanding sensitivity in selecting the hundreds that make up this collection are clear. Any book of photos of Egypt will naturally focus on the monumental structures of Egypt's past, and this book does cover them right up front, and lovingly so; but there is more to the country, including the wide swathes of desert, the Nile Delta, the cities and the Red Sea and Mediterranean coasts, and as such this book does touch on pretty much all of Egypt's fantastic geography. Further, the author's 'angle' of shooting everything from the air, an unconventional but in this case highly effective approach, lend this beautiful collection tremendous appeal. The work is presented entirely on high quality glossy paper, well bound, and would be a welcome gift or reference for anyone interested in Egypt.
