5.0 out of 5 stars A very good game that takes place in Ancient Egypt!, January 3, 2005

I love Ancient Egypt and I would definently recommend this game! You play a young priestess named Nefermaat, called Tifet, who was raised in the city of Heliopolis, an ancient Egyptian city. You are now living in Bubastis, another Egyptian city. You receive a message from your adoptive father in Heliopolis who wishes to see you immediately. Upon arrival in Heliopolis, you discover that your adoptive father, Djehouty, has come down with a mysterious ilness. He wanted you to come so he could see you one last time.

This is a very good game with adventure, mystery, and an ancient prophecy. I bought the boxed set with this and "Egypt: Tomb of the Pharaoh" in it, and I installed "Egypt: Tomb of the Pharaoh" and it had terrible graphics so I sold it and kept this game, "Egypt 2: The Heliopolis Prophecy". I enjoyed this game muchly and would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in Egypt or just likes adventure. Plus, it doesn't have very high system requirements so it should work on most computers. If you do decide to buy this game, I wish you the best of luck and lots of fun!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for puzzle people, December 28, 2009
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Egypt II: The Heliopolis Prophecy (CD-ROM)
This is a point-and-click first person adventure with two modes of navigation. Navigation is node-based (there are a LOT of nodes) and the two options are "cursor centered" and "cursor edge". I tried both and found both to be rather clumsy. Navigation is also frequently interrupted by cut scenes, which you get to see over and over again, thanks to the linear content of the game.

Graphics are passable considering the vintage of the game, but everything kinda looks the same - big empty courtyards and rooms with broken pottery and rolled papyrus sheets laying all over the place. And it's all brown.

You can't just wander about and pick up everything that isn't nailed down. Often, when you try to interact with an object, your character just says "hmmmm - not now" and you find out later that you have to walk clear across town and have a long-winded conversation with some boring NPC who has to TELL you to go get that object and THEN you can walk back to pick it up --- and then bring it back to him --- and then he'll ask you to get something else you could have picked up before - it isn't that much fun, chasing around like that through a homogenized brown environment.

Puzzles, you ask? I have been playing for a couple hours and so far have encountered only one puzzle, and it was a slider! eeewww! I won't be finishing this game, but I can tell you that a quick search through some walkthroughs reveals that there are only THREE puzzles in this entire game (a slider, a musical one, and a measuring one), unless you consider playing fetch with inventory items to be "puzzles".

Sorry to be so negative... Thanks for listening.

If you want real fun inventory games, try:
"The Secrets of Da Vinci: The Forbidden Manuscript"
"Return to Mysterious Island"
"Nostradamus: The Last Prophesy"
"Voyage"

For unbeatable puzzles:
Anything Myst
"Schizm: Mysterious Journey"
"Mysterious Journey II"

And for an indescribably cute and challenging gaming experience:
"Machinarium"

I don't know why, but I could never get this to work on my computer. My computer is updated with all the bells and whistles, yet for some reasons, I can't get the game to work. I've given up on it and just written it off as a loss.
