From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5-Well-organized text and detailed illustrations are the calling cards of this brief volume. Featuring "split" (or half-leaf) pages in most chapters, by which young readers can change the scene in the center of the two-page spread and uncover more information, the book provides a step-by-step look at the way in which the Egyptian upper-class dead were prepared for burial. In addition to the actual embalming and dressing procedures, chapters cover the funeral procession, the contents of the tomb, and-of course-the subsequent burglaries. Introductory and closing chapters broaden the focus somewhat, with more general looks at Egyptian culture and mummies from other parts of the world. This is not, to be sure, a fresh topic-other titles on the subject abound-but it is an attractive and straightforward addition for collections in which the subject is especially popular.
