This book takes a positive and practical approach to resolving the problems associated with the environmental impact assessment process, both for the proponents of development, the scientists involved in preparing an EIS and for the public who stand to be affected by the final project.Dr.Wiesner has written an excellent overview of the approach taken by industry and governments to assessing the environmental impact of major developments and smaller projects on local communities which are likely to be affected by them. She discusses the type of information required by an environment impact study, how the information is collected by the scientists producing the report and how it is presented to the public who are likely to be affected by the changes being considered. She then looks at the role which the public can play in recommending changes, petitioning and negotiating for improvements to the original development plans. This is a useful book to help people achieve the best results from a proposed development and to ensure that the changes planned add to the quality of the environment.
