Product Description

Eight Cranes "Perfect Steeper" is a portable tea brewer and 8 ounce tea cup all in one attractive, double-walled high tempered glass chamber with stainless accents.  It provides an easy way to brew high quality loose leaf tea without the mess of a traditional teapot and cups. Simply remove the top (steeping chamber) from the cup and add hot water to the cup.  Replace the steeping chamber and secure snugly to the cup.  Next remove the lid from the steeping chamber and add loose leaf tea.  Replace the lid and slowly invert the steeper so the steeping chamber fills with water, and allow the tea to steep for 1-3 minutes.  Slowly return to the steeper to its upright position allowing the water to drain back into the cup.  Remove the steeping chamber and drink from the cup.  Doubled walled tempered glass 8 oounce unit with stainless steel accents.

I had purchased this product on Nov. 18th. The product arrived a few days later. I was impressed by the product at first and it totally met my needs. That all changed last night...

I had just finished the first cup of tea and was going back for my second. I poured the water from my tea kettle into the cup and attached the steeping chamber. I then slowly turned the product upside down so that the tea could begin steeping. I was on my way back to my laptop when the cup literally exploded in my hand.

The cup was not cold and the water was not boiling so I am not sure what exactly happened. Thankfully I just got a few minor burns from the hot water.

The most important information is that the steeper only lasted for about 2 months of once-a-day daily use. During steeping with hot water the inner glass completely shattered near the bottom. I cannot recommend this product, but I can provide some additional information in case you are still considering a purchase.

Pros
Works well to steep tea
Doesn't leak if you put the pieces together tightly
Its a clever design and looks cool

Cons
Mine broke after only two months of use
It does not hold enough volume (the eight ounce capacity was never enough for me) I would steep twice to get enough tea
It does become quite hot to the touch when steeping

At a glance it seemed ok. I bought this because I don't like putting boiling water on unknown plastics. The top clear container where you put the tea to brew seems to be acrylic or polycarbonate. Kinda defeats the purpose of buying glass. Also I find it an odd coincidence that they didn't mention that although found time to emphasize the glass part. Other than that it seems well made although the stainless steel is very thin and probably glued on. I could imagine those rings coming off in short order.

I bought this and felt confident in in it's solid construction. It's certainly not the only brand marketing this style of infuser, so I didn't think twice about the pressure build-up. I'm typing right now with serious thermal burns on both of my forearms from exactly what others have described...The pressure builds and it pops open, leaving 212 degree water burning you unless you were lucky enough not to be holding it when it happened. It's not just this brand, but rather this style of infuser. Do not ever buy this style. Please. It's painful, trust me. Let me be the idiot you learned from. Thanks for listening.

I use this all the time. It is incredibly convenient and produces great tasting tea. I originally had the PG version, which is plastic, because I was afraid of breaking the glass one. But after that one got worn through I decided to try the glass and really enjoy it.
This product doesn't last forever, there's a lot of screwing on and off of lids. The very top lid is actually two parts epoxied together and after a few hundred sweaty manhandlings they can come undone. But after about two years of very hard duty, I did not feel upset at having to purchase a new one at all.
I've bought this as gifts to friends and they've enjoyed it.

One word of caution, after you clean it and reassemble it make sure the o ring is sitting flat. Otherwise when you flip it air will leak out and spurt molten tea goo all up your forearm. If you hear a hiss at any point after flipping reverse your flip.

Really wanted to like this product, it certainly has potential, but I just threw it in the garbage. Here's why: After about my 30th cup the seal would not hold forcing me to finagle the rubber gasket back in each time I wanted tea. Half the time it wouldn't line up right and I would end up splattering hot liquid everywhere burning myself and making a mess! The plastic began to break down so the lid started requiring more and more force to screw on, again adding to the danger factor. I'm a fairly strong dude and it HURT to put the lid on and take it off. So much so that that nice 'metal' finish on the top actually came unglued. Great product for the first 30 or so cups but it was all downhill after that. Going back to a metal tea ball. Thanks, Eight Cranes.

The strong double walled glass is great for drinking out of and the cap makes it convenient for me during my commute. I've seen reviews saying that it leaks, but I've found this only happens when you have a dirty rim when putting the cap on. Just wipe it down with your finger before putting the lid on and you shouldn't have a problem.
