A joyous song of celebration!,
This review is from: Eight Days of Hanukkah (MP3 Download)
I take my hat off to Senator Orrin Hatch for being part of a Hanukkah song with co-writer Madeline Stone. This is a fun song that shares the real meaning of the celebration. I learned something while I clapped along! The music is so contagious I can't get it out of my head. Hope they write some more songs together!

Happy Hanukkah,y'all!,

Utah Senator Orrin Hatch's "Eight Days of Hanukkah" is an underground cult classic. True, comic Adam Sandler's Hanukkah song which is a shout-out to Jewish celebrities is a hit of its own, but Orrin Hatch triumphs through sheer weirdness. Hatch is,for one thing, Mormon. According to Mormonism, the ancient Israelites settled the Americas, the Garden of Eden was in Missouri, and Jesus visited the Nephites/Lamanites (Native Americans) after His Ascension.
"Eight Days of Hanukkah" is a rollicking novelty song about the Maccabees battling Greek oppression. It's a song about religious freedom, fighting for justice--and it's catchy. One day, this will be a karaoke song. Happy Hanukkah!

The apocrypha aren't inspired,

This little song celebrating Hanukkah is available free for download. You can also access a video clip on Youtube.
The song is very bad (worse than anything from the Eurovision Song Contest). It's main claim to fame is that the lyrics were written by Orrin Hatch, a Mormon senator representing Utah. Both Hatch and the actual singer Rasheeda Azar can be seen in the Youtube clip, together with the inevitable children. I was somewhat disappointed that Hatch doesn't sing it himself, LOL. Hatch enjoys good relations with the Jewish community, but one wonders what the Living Prophet says about this one? Didn't God tell Joseph Smith that the apocrypha aren't inspired and shouldn't be "translated"? Happy Hanukkah, BTW. (A bit too late, presumably.)
