Product Description

Eight o'clock started as a store brand way back in 1859 when the great atlantic and pacific company opened its doors and the whole bean coffee that would later become eight o'clock was among its signature products. By the 1930s eight o'clock reigned supreme as the number 1 coffee brand in the us. During this time, one out of every four cups of coffee consumed was eight o'clock. Today this remains as america's best-selling whole bean coffee and is the fourth largest national coffee brand in terms of volume.

Eight O'Clock Coffee used to be only the leading kind of store coffee sold by the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company ("A&P") back when it was a dominant national supermarket and competed with brands in yellow and black bags. Now there are several different kinds of Eight O'Clock, all in red bags, so you'll have to read the label. This French Roast comes pre-ground in well-sealed bags with a vent button and I think I like it a bit better even than the "regular" Eight O'Clock. It is less "blond" but hardly bitter, even when brewed up strong, and has a nice aroma and enough caffeine punch to start the day off right. The only Amazon coffee I like better is Tim Horton's in the bean, but supply of it seems to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak every time I try to order it. This is a good substitute, and due to the quality and price I'm happy to give it five stars.

I really like this coffee, but the price keeps going up and up. There are many other coffees just as good or better for a lot less money. I'm disappointed that they came in with a very fair price and then hike it up so much. It's not that good.
