4.0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best Music is still Unknown..., September 22, 2002

John NY (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eighteen Over Me (Audio CD)
Thats how I describe this album. It irks me to no end that this woman is practically unheard of (at least here on the east coast). I first saw Garrison Starr at Lilith Fair 98' on a second stage between the main acts. Later on I purchased this cd in a used record shop. Talk about a gem covered in dirt. From the take off track Grounded, your attention is caught. Rocking guitars, powerful lyrics and quite simply GOOD MUSIC is all it takes to grab you. Garrison is not about glitz and glam. She's just a gal with her guitar and a bit of soul. If your reading this ad, please go on and buy this album, you will be truly satisifed.

4.0 out of 5 stars innovative artist whose strong voice drives the music, July 4, 1998

This review is from: Eighteen Over Me (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Garrison Starr for about 6 months, and found that the music grows on you. Lyrics are great and provocative. I like the band, and really into the groove on the feature songs like 'Grounded' just now getting alot of airplay. There are no 'bad' songs on this cd, and a variety of song styles. Worth having in a collection of best new artists in my opinion.

Garrison Starr is an up and coming artist that has been a long time in coming. Her words and music will take you in different directions. I like this CD and the more I listen to it the more I like it. I just can't wait for another from her.

ok bought the cd in a pawn shop because i didn't know if it was any good...only heard the song "superhero" which rocked..so i buy it and i listen to it a little and i'm like it's alright...anyway a month later...listen to it some more and these damn songs just grew on me...this album rocks..every song..i mean EVERY song...and i really do not like the female singers of this generation anymore....but Garrison was just a breath of fresh air...her voice is so different and just hardcore...love the songs ugly and grounded...passing is the BEST...do get this cd...this girl deserves to be recognized....tampa loves your garrison

5.0 out of 5 stars different and better than what you expect, August 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteen Over Me (Audio CD)
don't be tempted to associate garrison starr with other female pop/rock singers today. she is definitly not jewel. garrison has a harder, realer edge to her music and lyrics that will draw you in and make you feel no matter what your sex or what kind of music you generally listen to. "18 over me", "together", and "superhero" are the best songs on the cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Mississippi Great, July 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteen Over Me (Audio CD)
Garrison has been playing the club scene in the Southeast for years now. She has several great albums available before Geffen picked her up. Eighteen Over Me is the best by far. Superhero is one of the best rock anthems of the '90s. We love you in Hattiesburg, Garrison. Keep it up.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is rare thing that we have here., November 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteen Over Me (Audio CD)
As in many times and ways, the simple sounds of music are mixed along with words into a form that can move ones soul. It seems that MS Starr has reached a place where only few of her generation have dared to trod. This is with out a doubt the first "Rock" CD by a young woman to touch this man's soul.
