5.0 out of 5 stars Every mother-daughter relationship isn't perfect., October 2, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
A must-read for every mother with a teenage daughter. Margaret Johnson's description of Kathi's emerging independence and how it affected their relationship is honest. Kathi's boundless energy and determination, so cute in the little girl, was exhausting when the adolescent Kathi continually clashed with mom. Her choice of a best friend was a huge blow to her parents, especially her mom. It was more than the usual teenage "stuff"; there was a serious personality conflict between them. Before the book is over, Kathi has a life-changing experience that profoundly improves the relationship with her mother. Sadly, Kathi's life was cut short, leaving Margaret to sort things out. This great little book was the result. If she had lived, Margaret might never have shared Kathi's story.

When I read the book in the early 70s, it didn't occur to me that one day I would relate to so much of it. My tiny daughter and I had enjoyed a special relationship so I was unprepared for the clashes that surfaced during adolescence. Re-reading the book during that experience gave me encouragement to pray and keep being the mom. It helped! My daughter is now happily married to a mild-mannered guy who truly appreciates her strong opinions and independence.

I continue to recommend this book and recently purchased a newer printing from Amazon for myself. The last time I loaned my original copy, it didn't come back to me. It's a must for my library.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's hard to put this book down, December 16, 2004
By
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
I first read the book about Kathi's life probably at least 20 years ago. It is a book that is hard to put down. I was so drawn to Margaret's story about her relationship with her daughter. It certainly created a new awareness of the brevity of life, and to seize every opportunity to serve the Lord, because tomorrow is not promised. I was very inspired by this story. Excellent reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book gave me hope., July 5, 2004

This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
I read this book for the first time over 20 years ago. I was living in a very dark situation, and this book gave me hope that there really was a God who I could hold onto in all of life's difficulties. I read this book so many times as a teenager the pages fell out. I had to stick a rubber band around it to keep it together. Somehow, it got lost over the years so I was so excited to order it again all these years later. I read the whole thing the other day and find it still has a profound affect on me. It truly is an example of how God brings good things out of every hard thing and tragedy in our lives when we are His and called according to His purpose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful story about a beautiful person, August 14, 2003

Teresa Slack "Fiction Author" (http://www.teresaslack.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
What an inspiring book for anyone, especially mothers of teens. I could see so much of my relationship with my son as Margaret told how she wanted to draw closer to her daughter--to know her better--but felt like she was driving a wedge between them instead. This is such a beautiful and uplifting story, I recommend it to anyone. Have a box of tissues ready, as tears came to my eyes while still reading the dedication.

Kathi's testimony was a wake-up call to me to rededicate my life to the Lord. What a beautiful person she was! We will never know this side of glory just how many people her life has touched, many of whom she never met. Thank you, Margaret, for sharing this precious person with us.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Inspiration, April 24, 2004
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
I first read this book 25 years ago and it profoundly changed my life and my view of life. Already a Christian when I first read it, I was deeply touched by the story of Kathy & Margaret Johnson and Kathy's short but profound life. The book is a timeless tale of conflict between mother and teenaged daughter, the battle for holding on to what is dear and letting go. It speaks to understanding yet still not understanding that God is in control and His will is paramount. It also teaches that life on this earth can be so short and making the most of each moment as a follower of Christ is so important.
I recommend this book to parents and teens alike and challenge you to read it only once. I think you will want to read it again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars A book to be read, shared, and read again., February 2, 2002
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
I was introduced to "18, No Time To Waste" Godincedently. I just finished reading it, actually listening to it. That's how Margaret writes. As if your sitting right beside her and Kathi sharing each other's moments of pain and joy.

If you are a parent and want encouragement and hope, this books for you. If you know teens, share this book with them. Your not sharing a book, your sharing treasure that is in Heaven, and just maybe someone who hear's Margaret as this book is being read will find that they to are a diamond in the making just as Kathi was. She is still shinning brightly through the testimony of her faith!

This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
Margaret shares the heart touching story of the tragic death of her 18 year old daughter. She allows you to share in the painful account of her loss, but she doesn't leave you hopeless. Margaret takes you on her journey with God and how God in his faithfulness used the death of her daughter to bring many others to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.

A must read for those who have suffered loss and those who know someone else suffering loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving tribute to a special life and a victorious death, May 29, 2000
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
It is impossible to read this book without touching, and being touched by the heart of Kathi Johnson. It is also impossible to read it without having your heart touched by the Jesus whom she served.

Kathi's mother, Margaret Johnson, has bared her soul in this scathing, loving, hurting, praising story of her daughter's stormy life and tragic death. This is an unusual story of tragedy turned to triumph, of loathing transformed into love, of despair turned to hope and joy.

It has been 30 years since Kathi was killed. But her story is timeless and her legacy of faith is still being written in Heaven.

Her mother wrote this book for Kathi, but Kathi lived her life for you. To understand what that means, you must read this very special book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for everyone of all ages!!!, July 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteen, No Time to Waste (Paperback)
This was an absolutely wonderful bitter-sweet book. Kathi's zest for life and spirit just lept from the pages. She had such a gift for leading lost souls to God. She wasted no time with her short life on this earth. Some of us never have the pleasure of meeting someone on this earth that touch us so deeply and make such a difference in our lives. Those that Kathi touched were so blessed to have known her. It's so amazing that even in death, Kathi, through her mother, Margaret, is still leading people to God. What a legacy! God bless you, Margaret, for having the courage and strength to tell Kathi's story so that others may benefit from it. This is a great book to read if your looking for a heart-warming story. You are sure to find a blessing in this book.
