5.0 out of 5 stars A helpful visual overview of late 18th century fashion
Stella Blum has selected plates of 18th century fashion from the Metropolitan Museum's collection and reproduced them here in full colour.

You certinally don't get all the plates produced in the 18th century but what you get is a helpful and representitive selection. This is one of the few books where you can see actual colour plates all reproduced in a sequence like...

1.0 out of 5 stars Some books posted for sale but actually not available.
Was so excited when I finally found this book (Eighteenth-Century French Fashions in Full Color by Stella Blum). I completed the transaction and then 2-3 days later I received an email from Amazon stating that my credit card had been credited for this book purchase but did not explain why. Confused, I sent the seller an email asking what had happened and they stated...

If you have any interest in 18th french fashion this book is both [inexpensive] and invaluable.

5.0 out of 5 stars late 18th century fashions at their best, February 23, 2005
This review is from: Eighteenth-Century French Fashions in Full Color (Paperback)
A lovely collection of 64 period fashion plates from Galerie des Modes. The plates cover the years from 1778-1787 and give a good representation of French high fashion in the years leading up to the French Revolution. The plates include court gowns, undress gowns, stays, day ensembles, riding habits, children's frocks and more. Complete with translated descriptions of each outfit and a decent glossary of terms.

Drool-worthy does not begin to describe in the goodies contained within. This lovely and inexpensive resource is a must for anyone interested in late century fashions. Get one for research and one to take apart and frame for your sewing room walls.

About a week later, I saw the same book from the same seller listed for sale but again, it was not available. At least I received a credit for the purchase price but it was disappointing that the book was not actually available...

1.0 out of 5 stars Never received, July 30, 2009

About a month after I had ordered the book, I still had not received it. I contacted the company who offered it, but never receive a reply. I looked to see who else may have the book, and I saw that the company from whom I ordered it originally, still had the one book I had ordered in their stock, indicating that they never even attempted to send it to me. I emailed them to ask if they would send it if I reordered it, and I again did not receive a response. It seems that the big company that they advertise as being, is too big to pay attention to an order for one book. This company does not merit even one star, but the Amazon system won't send the email without a star acknowledgement.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunate experience, July 13, 2009

I tried to buy this book twice from this vendor within a two week period, but was refunded my money instead--both times. The first time I tried my credit card number i forgot that it had been changed due to a fraud concern I got from my bank, so the transaction didn't happen. The vendor never sent me anything to explain the reason for refund. I had to call amazon customer service to find out what happened, and even then, the reason was nebulous.

I tried to buy the book again with my new number and, again the transaction was rejected. I was confused as to why this happened, but never got an explanation from vendor. I am sorry that I have to leave a negative review. I just want the book! It's out of print and my not having it is affecting my business negatively. A simple explanation email to me would have made me happy.
