5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS ALBUM
Wow - looking back, this is a terrific album. The artists involved at the time, some were just starting to grow in popularity but this album is exceptional. I bought this well over a year ago, and from there have spidered out and picked up cd's by Mo Horizon's (Germany), Reminiscence Quartet (France), Boyz From Brazil and Nicola Conte.

I highly recommend this. You...

3.0 out of 5 stars nearly put me to sleep
granted, i first heard this cd at work after a long week-end but although there is a definite high quality to the tracks, this is not a cd i would get stuck on a desert island with!...
things start off very slow and slowly (slowly) pick up until it gets to the (i love this one) track by tom y joyce and then it seems to hit james bond theme land.

I highly recommend this. You won't be disappointed - and it's one of those albums that you can put in and just play and relax. It starts out slow and smooth with a jazzy Portuguese track, then moves on to get a bit upbeat, then dark loungish with Foto Viva before the nightlife begins with Onde Anda O Meu Amor. The CD starts to "Wind Down" with a smooth remix of Vai Minha Tristeza and ends out with the classic "Jet Society" by Cordoba Orchestra.

It's a nice adventure and a terrific release. I wish ESL would make another like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice laid back party music, October 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteenth Street Lounge Soundtracks - Jet Society (Audio CD)
When this is playing in the backround, people don't really stop what theyre doing to listen to it, but it does bring everyone's spirits up. It's a very jazzy funky collection of 50s-70s sounding lounge music from the very modern, to the cheesy burt bacharach-ish last track. Most of it is very enjoyable, but a few just make me laugh and hit the 'next' button, such as Stereo Action Unlimited's 'Hi Fi trumpet'. Overall a very nice cd and a collection of songs and styles I have yet to find anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tour of contemporary, electronic jazz., September 13, 2000
By A Customer

An electronic lounge must. This is the kind of CD that makes you want to break out the libations, turn on the mood lighting, and invite your friends over for a wing-ding. Take out that cocktail shaker and turn up the volume; within moments of hitting play your guests will be nodding their heads and snapping their fingers as they are engulfed in the indulgent beats of these mood altering tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ambient Down Tempo Lounge aka eclectic, May 8, 2000

I don't know what to say about this album to truly justify it. I can go into the Thievery Corporation who are the owners of the Eighteenth Street Lounge, but the music they create and the music they play appear related but not one and the same. If you are expecting an album to stir excitement and to blow you off your socks with cleaver dubs. This album will not do that. The only way to really describe what this album is "Lounge Downtempo". You don't listen to it. You have to let it engulf you.

The music creates an ambient environment suitable for a social party, casual conversation or lazy reading. The music soothes with angelic voices at times. It grooves at other times. But, at all times, it invites the listener to be absorbed by it.

I first noticed that this was purchased by "individualswho also purchased [a title] by..." Britney Spears. That ismind-blowing. Kudos, Amazon.com, for bridging a musical gap that I never would have thought, or dreamed, of. To get to it, this cd is pure bliss. As a general rule of thumb, you can't go wrong with anything on the ESL label. This disc further proves that point. Listening to this disc, you get the feeling of being high atop a metro-penthouse suite, while a dozen or so go-go girls in angora sway to the rythms of Mancini, or certainly Jobin, a la Catwoman (Eartha Kitt) or Astrud Gilberto. "C'est si bon!" as the saying goes. I first purchased this disc while travelling from (a layover in) New Orleans to Seaside, Florida. Once in my suite, I slipped this into the Bang & Olfsen. As I then climbed into the Jacuzzi, listening to these wonderful tunes, along with the bubbles and the gently swaying surf of the Gulf of Mexico, I was in pure heaven. After a few moments, it was then, as I climbed out of the Jacuzzi and into a terry-cloth robe, I realized how perfect a martini would be at that moment. Several shakes later, heaven once more. Thank you ESL/Theivery Corp. Get the general feeling? That is this disc. You will not be disappointed. Look for the "JET SET" cd on ESL as well. It too....magnificent. Hope this somewhat helped.

5.0 out of 5 stars tasty, August 23, 2000

i am happy for my soul has been fed and my craving for contemporary bossa nova tinged with funk, hints of acid jazz, mixed with a small dose of house has been alleviated, satiated by the nostalgic kitschy flavors and exotic voices kept cooled and restrained. delicious. the amazon review is on the money. a must have for esl fans. this one is warm and friendly. moto obligato.

Very chillin' sounds from the Eighteenth Street Lounge, once again. It's like Theivery Corp. only less driven, slightly less bass, more vocals, that kinda thing. Very mellow, indeed.

I did a search based on an Acura car commercial and took a chance on the whole cd. Boy, was I surprised! When come home from work,I slip this in and press random because every track is a winner. And because it is various artists, it dosen't get redundant.

5.0 out of 5 stars cool, March 25, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Eighteenth Street Lounge Soundtracks - Jet Society (Audio CD)
The review is dead on. Even before I read the review it's exactly what I thought--even down to the sitcom theme song like cut on track 12. It's spooky but I had a friend over and that cut was playing when he came out of the shower and he insisted he hear it again. since then It's become a favorite of mine and is played all the time. Hope you make great memorable moments wth this one too.

ESL's Jet Society "Soundtrack" is an amazing compilation. It has bits and pieces of what the group does best, and fits perfectly as a lead in to Mirror Conspiracy. Buy this thing. Now!
