1.0 out of 5 stars I feel very sad to say this: Don't waste your money on this book!, March 16, 2008
Frankly, & very sad to say, this book poses not only a waste of my time to read it, but also my money to buy it.

Readers would be better off by sticking to Michael Michalko's 'Thinkertoys' as well as his 'Thinkpak' toolkit.

I didn't get any breakthrough approaches & neither did I get any novelty value out of this book.

The eight purported tools in this book are simply gimmicky spinoffs from the old 'SCAMPER' technique of the fifties or sixties.

Even the so-called I.N.N.O.V.A.T.E. process methodology is just a playful acronymania.

I have even read all the brief book reviews - more than a dozen of them - written on the amazon website by this particular author (obviously hiding behind the pseudonym of 'Intelligent Reader'), who is apparently more interested in promoting his debut book.

What a sneaky way to do self-promotion & marketing!

It was a disappointing book. You can take one idea or two, like the "Accelerate Technic" to do rapid thinking. Overall is not worth paying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Brainstorming. Start Eightstorming., August 3, 2007
What a strange name for a book, but what a powerful message! If you need to solve problems in your workplace or you need ideas (like how to increase productivity, cut down expenses, how to create new product lines, etc) the book offers an 8-step process. I assume the author has coined the word eightstorm by combing eight and storm (from brainstorm) The eight steps are:

Interrogate: Ask questions for which you have no answers. (How can you solve the problem of late-comers in your office without issuing a memo?)

Navigate: Move to other fields for inspiration (if you are in banking, look at scuba diving.)

Nuptial: All new ideas are combination of old ideas (camera plus phone, gave us that pesky camera phone.)

Overturn: Turn a problem around on its head.

Visualize: Turn your problem into a visual (Does your company look like a sinking ship)

Accelerate: Do rapid thinking.

Transcend: Get rid of the first ideas that you get. They could be the weakest.

Entertain: Create jokes around your problem because humor can trigger off new thoughts.

By now you must have noticed the first alphabets of these techniques spell out as INNOVATE.

We tried the techniques in our offices and it does WORK. Although some of these are tools are already used in advertising agencies (I work in one), they can be quite useful for a normal office. So, I guess it is time to move on from Brainstorming and get into Eightstorminng.
