3.0 out of 5 stars Not What I'd Expected
This is not the Shania who's music I know and love. I'm very hard pressed to recognize her voice in any of the tracks, and this is more like rock & roll from the mid-80's than it is anything else. Reminescent of....Heart. Some may recall that "Half Breed" was a hit for Sonny and Cher many years ago. It sounds fine on the CD, but, still, it's not the Shania I...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great CD of Shania's earlier masterpieces, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Eilleen (Audio CD)
Shania Twain's 'new' album of 'old' material. It is brilliant!

It is lovely to here Shania's first recordings in one. It is quite a contrast to her country recordings is this is mainly a Rock type of album. More like country rock.

"Two Hearts, One Love" is a beautiful song. My favourite is "(Don't Gimme That) Once Over". It is a moderatly paced melody that has a great beat and a feel to it. I found myself humming it for ages after I listened to it. More excellent melodies are "Half Breed", "Wild and Wicked", "I Lost My Heart When I Found You", and "Rhythm Made Me Do It".

This is a must. It is a great album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great History, February 20, 2000

I love this CD because it gives you a chance to hear what Shania sounded like before she became famous. It took me a little bit to get used to hearing her not singing a country song, but I soon learned to like it. I found it to be alot like Lita Ford, kinda popish with the heavy guitar. I really enjoyed Half-Breed. When I hear it, it reminds me alot of Europe's Cherokee, or Tim McGraw's Indian Outlaw. It is one of my favorite songs on the album. I imagine that she really enjoyed singing it, because of her indian background. The first 9 songs definately have a different sound than the other ones she wrote. I would have never guessed that this album was her! But it is great to see a different side of her!

Don't expect this album to at all like her two Mercury realeses. Shania experiments with music styles alot on this album. The sound quality on this album isn't that good cuz of the fact that every track on "beginnings" is a demo, but still the album rocks!

5.0 out of 5 stars All I can say is *WOW*, January 4, 2000

This is one of the very best albums that I have heard in a long, long time.

She is not 'coming out w/ pop stuff'. These are recordings that were made before she even thought about singing country music. Personally, I see this as her best album, as I can not stand (flame me, if you must) Shania's lame attempt at country music. This style that she shows here is, in my opinion, much more suited to her singing style.

These recordings reflect a raw sound that takes me right back to the middle of the 1980s, a decade that has unfortunately been gone for *WAY* too long.

Shania, if you're reading, let's get back to this. This is much better than the other stuff you've released.

Your newest fan,

Matt

5.0 out of 5 stars WILD AND WICKED!, December 28, 1999
This review is from: Eilleen (Audio CD)
Well, I was amazed to see this album at my local mucis store. I am in canada, and usually these rare titles don't get released here. But I'm so glad that Shania "Beginnings" did! What a fantastic album. I am the proud owner of all Shania's albums, and 11 singles, plus a large collection of her imported singles. At first the typical Shania twain fan may find this album hard to listen to. No, it is not quite like her work on "Woman In Me", or "Come On Over". It has all the fun of those albums, but take away any sign of country in Shania's voice. The opening track is the highlight of the CD. Wild And Wicked has great lyrics, and a great melody. All tracks are catchy, and EXTREAMELY well performed by the CMT Performer of the year winner for 1999. GREAT WORK SHANIA!

This album is very comparable to all of shania's work. Its upbeat, fun, and proves shania had the talent necessary to put her where she is today. Any shania fan definitely will want this in her collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece!, December 31, 1999
This review is from: Eilleen (Audio CD)
Beginnings has a better sound quality than On The Way and this album is terrific because you can hear Shania's talent in a different perspective. In this album, she brings her voice to a new height with rock n' roll songs and proved she can do any type of music! This album is a must for your collection and may become rare! Shania has just proved herself once again with this remarkable cd and it was recorded with very low budgeting, unlike the masterpieces Woman In Me and Come On Over! Great Music!
