5.0 out of 5 stars Sankt Otten - eine kleine Traurigkeit, March 3, 2002
This review is from: Eine Kieine Traurigkeit (Audio CD)
a little sadness. a little understatement. sankt otten make joy division the norman cook of wave. however thoust may call it , this is a record one can hardly ignore.

Sankt Otten déroule un film noir aurale: intensely orchestrated, creamily thick electronic soundcarpets are only a slow grooving vehicle for a tender voice and a charming (and mostly?) acoustic guitar . the heritage of Dvorak, Orff and John Barry weighs heavily on Sankt Otten on their way via Canossa to Pop Heaven. not to forget mentioning that the tradition of german chant is being continued here for good. this chanson electronique lives by an unignorable imagery and will consequently enrichen your record collection in a personal sense.

For - by all distancy - {eine kleine Traurigkeit} targets the heart of thee, whether you dance it or not. modernity 2000 has already become casual tradition. innovation derives from a past being a citation of the past itself. an effort of combining the uncombined maybe. but after all, it's all pop that counts. and though coolness has its own strange ways, Sankt Otten are exactly that: sinister and sexy saints.

Sankt Otten is Stephan Otten, electronics, and Carsten Sandkaemper, non-electronics.
