A favorite of our son's,
By
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Alphabooks (Board book)
This "book" is actually a box containing 26 tiny board books, each with three double-page spreads featuring an image (often from Getty Images, so they're very pretty, albeit sometimes too complex, in the way Baby Einstein can be) across from the word.
So A has Airplane, Alligator and Apple, with a cartoon, photo and painting, respectively. (The painting of the apples is probably too difficult for younger children to identify as such.) Our son loves to carry the books around, presenting them to adults to read to him and now, at 22 months, has begun announcing the names of each letter as he does so, which I credit in large part to him wanting to drill with these books over and over and over. While there are some duds -- X has what you'd expect, with "X" being the third choice in the book, as there aren't three kid-ready words beginning with the letter -- our son loves most of these, going so far as to rip out the painting of a cat from C (oops!). Although you may have some trouble keeping all 26 out from under furniture or out of little hiding holes around your home, these books are definitely worth the seemingly high price tag. (And I'm a Scrooge when it comes to most baby goods, which I find to be very low value for the price, as a rule.)

simply wonderful,

These little books are great! Just the right size for my daughter's little hands. The books have many actual photos and some beautiful illustrations. I bought this box set not only to encourage letter identification but, to promote language and reading skill (turning pages/pretending to read). My daughter was behind in language skills and thes books helped enormously.

Both my toddlers love these books!,

My daughter got these when she was one year old and a year and a half later she still plays with them every day. Besides reading them, they like to take them in and out of the box and stack them. It is really nice that the books fit into the box stacked horizontally or vertically. The box has held up to daily abuse by two busy toddlers. I like the mix of photos, art and cartoon like drawings. I am buying these for my niece for Christmas.

I got these books for my goddaughter, and she loves them. They are really small, much smaller than I expected, but they are perfect for her to hold. The box fell apart after a few days, but I glued it back together and it seems to be holding. She knows almost all the pictures, my only problem is that some of the pictures are not what I would use for a 2 year old. The picture of the apple is a painting of a bowl of apples, kind of hard to tell her that is an apple. Other than that they work well.

Amazing fun,

Our 18 month old daughter learned her alphabet with these books. We would spread them out on the floor and ask "where's A", etc. She learned her letters within a couple of weeks. It was really amazing. She also loved to tote the box of books around by the handle everywhere she went. It's a great learning tool.

Like it but could be better.,
This review is from: Baby Einstein: Alphabooks (Board book)
Overall I like this set but agree with the other reviewer about poor choice of pictures (both inside and cover). I would purchase again because it fits my son's personality and keeps him pretty engaged. Box is nice so we can take along and protect the books. Like that the lid doesn't come off. Harder for the child to use books as a play thing by taking it out and throwing it all over.
Pros: Some pics are great and my son loves them. Like the concept of each letter having a book. Son loves to pick each letter out one at a time for us to go through them. Nice to have both upper/lower case covered. Each book ends with the letter covered on last page. Again nice if you're reading with child to reinforce what letter we're working on. Cons: I (and my 2 year old son) could do w/o the impressionist style paintings. Pics on cover of each letter doesn't always correspond with the letter. Update 9-1-10: Went through this set of books last night and my son was able to identify all the letters of the alphabet. Actually surprised. We don't use these book every day about once a week. I do however also use the Meet the Letters DVD to help reinforce the letters. And also use flash cards as well. So not sure if it's the books directly but a combination of all (again, not every day, prob once a week on the DVD and flash cards) has helped him learn his letters very quickly.

These books are wonderful! My kids love them because they are small and they can "read them" at a very young age because they can recognize the pictures. These are perfect for teaching letters, sounds, and reading.

Well my son likes them, but he hasn't played with them much. I think that's because he is just tired of learning right now. I like them, they are made to withstand little hands.
