5.0 out of 5 stars Review From Pop Culture Press- "Der Einziger Weg"
I own some weird music. But nothing compares to the hypnotic, vaguely menacing offering from the Queen of Punk and the undisputed King of the Texas Chainsaw Massacres. I can't think of a more melancholy, guttural language that would suit La Harry's voice with any more love. Her voice envelops the language, caressing the harsh consonants into eager submission. 2.0 out of 5 stars For die hard Deborah Harry fans only
And I thought "Command and Obey" was bad! A real disappointment. Production is poor and the song is boring. "Strike Me Pink" its not. I don't even think this one will grow on me. For Deborah Harry completists only (which I am). I hate giving anything of hers a bad review but in German or English this song goes down with "Backfired" as...

5.0 out of 5 stars Review From Pop Culture Press- "Der Einziger Weg", October 12, 1999

This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
The German version "Der Einziger Weg" ("The Only Way")has me reminiscing about an album I bought in 1979 of Kurt Weill's "Three Penny Opera" featuring Lotte Lenya. Never before had I heard the siren call of sexual destitution and corruption. Until now. "I am a Berliner when in your bedroom" reeks of Christopher Isherwood, Sally Bowles and the life of the caberet. This song is haunting and poignant and it demands a visceral response. Robert Jacks (AKA Leatherface) co-wrote the lyrics with La Harry and his velvet, subtle tenor is a great complement to her low alto timber. After all, life is a cabaret ol' chum. Come to the cabaret. (Blythe Christopher)

5.0 out of 5 stars I could listen to this song all day..., July 27, 1999

This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
In German or English, this song is the bomb! I just love it! Sexy, world-weary lyrics lovingly wrapped in an achingly beautiful melody that lingers in your head hours after you hear it. Deborah Harry's always-wonderful singing takes on a sweetly dangerous quality which is well matched by the exquisite longing in Robert Jacks' ethereal vocals. (I just wish he were also featured on the fabulous "Glitter Mix.") When Ms. Harry sings, "und kommen," you can practically hear her cigarette and fishnet stockings! If you like sensual music with a rueful edge, you need to get this cd!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sultry, Heartbreaker of a Duet, March 5, 1999

This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
Debbie Harry's sultry, smoldering voice has aged like a fine wine and this song showcases her voice perfectly. Robert Jacks' sweet, tender alto blends beautifully for a most pleasurable listen. You can almost smell the smoke and taste the stale beer. "Ah, love...indeed!" This cd is a must for all Debbie Harry fans old and new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quiet, Beautiful Release, August 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
"Maria" hit numer one, "Nothing is Real But The Girl" is climbing up the charts, "Der Einziger Weg" (The only Way) was quietly released at the end of Febuary 1999 on the label Eco Disaster Music. Although a quiet release, known only to some of us die hard Debaholics! It actually reached number one on the amazon chart - another success for Debbie to add to her recent achievements!

A duet between Deborah Harry and Robert Jacks (Leather Face from the film) the song is the theme song for the movie "Texas Chainsaw Massarce - The Next Generation" Robert Jacks plays one of the main roles in the movie. A soft, slow song Debbies voice is cool, sassy and rasps so dramatically around the lyrics. Violins and Strings a necessity the song is almost chilling in places. The lyrics conjure up a bizarre scene. Debbie sings in true Marlene Diertrich style - but it is so recognizably Debbie! She portrays a sleazy alcoholic chain smoking club singer, obsessed with sex as "the only way" for her to survive! - quite a similar character to Corey in Intamite Strangers. (Debbies featre film in 1992)

One of Debbies more artisitic moments which can fall under the same light as the 1992 soundtrack "Prelude To A Kiss" definitely one for the collection! The CD features 4 tracks, the original with Debbie and Robert singing in German, the second song is the English translation which features Debie only, the third is the instrumental and the fourth is a dancey upbeat remix.

The actual CD features some rare interesting home photographs of Debbie taken by Robert. She is portrayed on the cover wearing her hair up (its all brown) from the side smoking a cigarette. In the background there is a lampdshade a a picture showing a scene from the film. A definite collectable which will be a rarity I'm sure with in a few years! BUY IT! Review by Daniel Porter

At first I just didn't get it..however years of following Deborah Harry have taught me to be prepared for anything. I love the deep voice that Deborah sings in and the melody is just gorgeous. It would be great if Blondie could pick this one up for their next record..as the production quality on this CD is a little poor. If it were spruced up a bit I think it could be a huge hit. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh love"

5.0 out of 5 stars Tongue in Cheek Relief, May 11, 1999

This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
"Der Einziger Weg" is an an instant tongue in cheek standard on it's own, esp. for a horror film. I love the dance mix and the sense of humor kept within the layers as I have come accustomed with Miss Harry's work. The AA chip cd is hysterical and perverse. Thanks for the laughs.

Debbie Harry and Robert Jacks (Leatherface)take us to a haubrau of a time gone by. Their Caberet like effort mixes Dietrich images against alot of cocktails. It's lounge, and if you do not get it your'e stupid. Post apocolyptic and postmodern, Miss Harry's influences once again relect the times and are years ahead. More please from this duo- conceptually hysterical; historically morose and earnestly captured. Relief from a digitally enhanced world insisting on ignoring its own present day Holocost. IT MATTERS

5.0 out of 5 stars The most romantic song of 1999- Beauty and the Beast., March 11, 1999

I am the lucky recipient of an advance copy of this record, and if anything else this is the most post-modern post-war pop cultural experience I have ever come across in my "in" bin. Debbie and Robbie sound related (and if you ever saw him perform or soundcheck with her, their smiling similarities are evident)and compassionate. Miss Harry is in full form both as singer and actress in the Duet and American solo- by the time you get to the Dance Mix you cannot even tell their voices apart. Cheers to a sparkling glass of music to soothe the masses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Debbie Harry fans, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Der Einziger Weg ("The Only Way" -- Love theme from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation" 1994 Film) (Audio CD)
Now that Blondie are back in the limelight, it appears as though now is the time to highlight a potential single release that is quite out of the ordinary. Film producer Robert Jacks (based in Austin, Texas) appeared as Leatherface in the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation (his one and only acting role - he claims the filming was an ordeal and has dubbed the whole experience The Never Ending Nightmare). However, he called upon his friend Debbie Harry and together they performed a duet for the film, a love theme. The single has been released on Jacks' own record label (he has no affiliation with Beyond/BMG Records or Blondie's recent reincarnation).

It's certainly not one would expect for a horror movie theme; nor, to be fair, is it quite what one would expect from Blondie today. What it is is a simple ballad, sung very much in the mould of Marlene Dietrich. The CD single has four versions. Version A is Debbie singing the song as a duet with "Leatherface" (Robert Jacks); the difficulty here is that it is sung in German and it's not easy to picture a song when you can't understand the "story". However, Version B, which is Debbie singing it in English, reveals all. A plain but tuneful melody, superbly sung, very reminiscent of the Follow Me and Here's Looking At You tracks from Autoamerican in that 20s style that she does so well. Version C is the mandatory instrumental version, which is surprisingly enjoyable. Version D is quite a find as well - the "Debaucherous Glitter Mix" arranged by Terri Lord. Back to the days of disco.

All in all, it's unlikely that the song would appeal to a mass audience. Debbie sings in a very low register, which means that the lyrics aren't always easy to understand, and the fact that the duet (which is what is being promoted as being the "A" side of the single) is sung in German limits the audience even further. But for fans of Blondie and Debbie Harry, I'd say that it's something that should be added to the collection. And thank you Robert for taking the time to send me a copy.
