WONDERFUL WORK BY JOHN DOAN,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eire: Isle of the Saints (Audio CD)
I've been a fan of John's music for years, and highly recommend this CD. His music takes you on a journey through ancient ages and fantastic realms of the imagination. His skill with the rare 20-stringed harp-guitar is quite evident. One of my favorite tracks on this CD is "Farewell", a peaceful and reflective piece. The warmth and richness of these compositions will soothe and inspire those who choose to listen!

Of all the celtic music I own, this is my favorite!,

This CD is hauntingly beautiful, and not in the typical "celtic" or "new age" way. It combines the best of both worlds with a heavy dash of originality. I like celtic and new age music because I can do other things at the same time, but John Doan's music can be mellow and unobtrusive, or you can concentrate just on the intricacies of the music and not get bored. John Doan is absolutely wonderful, and of his works, I consider this the best of the best.

An Ethereal Journey,
By
This review is from: Eire: Isle of the Saints (Audio CD)
John Doan, a virtuoso of the rare "harp" guitar, has crafted a masterpiece. The songs, all written at least in part by John Doan, are reminiscent of Lorenna McKennitt. 'Where Horses of Fairy Hide', 'Farewell' and 'The Old Church of Kilronan' are especially enthralling. A must buy for anyone who enjoys Celtic or New Age music.

Great music takes you someplace, it opens up a vista inside of you deeper than thought or word. John Doan is a master at finding tones and melodies rich in emotion, soul, and wonder. His playing is impeccable, and yet he moves beyond technique and truly plays as the ancient bards must have sung - creating magical spaces and lands between the notes. This CD will stay at the top of my playlist for a long, long time.

Relaxing and wonderful!,
This review is from: Eire: Isle of the Saints (Audio CD)
I have worn this cd out. I put this on as I drive in rush hour traffic, which is very stressful, but as long as I have either this or Wayfarer playing I am no longer stressed out. Instead, the music transports me to quiet places like lush green fields or a forest. I honestly couldn't make the commute without this wonderfully relaxing cd! I love the first song, Fairie horses the best!!

A must own!,

This album is the most excent collection of Celtic music I have ever heard. I have played in Celtic groups, and heard music of this genre from all over, but this artist takes the cake. John Doan's use of such a unique instrument and ability to meld it in with recorders and mandolins and bagpipes only furthers to sweeten the album. This CD is a must have whether you are a casual listener, or a striving Musician trying to make it in a similar genre. It is a must have of any collection

Great Celtic Musical Tribute to St. Patrick,

This music is very well-composed, well performed, and well-produced. John Doan is a musician extra-ordinaire, and his harp guitar playing is peacefully intrigueing. The instrumental tribute to St. Patrick takes one through the life of Patrick, and the songs are musical tales of his circumstances and locale, as well as showing his prayerful dedication to God and the truth of the gospel. John Doan is to be praised for this work; I highly recommend it to all music listeners.

Beautiful beyond words!,
This review is from: Eire: Isle of the Saints (Audio CD)
When I discovered John Doan's music several years ago, he quickly became my number one top-favorite Celtic-style composer and musician. I put his CDs into my three-drawer player and listen to glorious music for hours...and then play them over again. There just aren't words enough to define how lovely and lyrical and moving and unique his compositions are. And how in the world that man can play such an unusual and complicated instrument as his harp-guitar without having additional arms or at least 20 fingers is a mystery to me. I have not had the privilege of being in attendance at one of his concerts or even viewing his skill on television. Nevertheless this master musician accomplishes it with eloquence and beauty. I can say that I do not love one John Doan CD over another, for they are all absolutely splendid! This CD is wonderful.
