Ekco used to make inexpensive but functional kitchen equipment. Apparently not any more. This Tea ketttle is terrible. Not only is it hard to fill it but it is impossible to pour from it with out spilling. I have been trying for months and every time it drips. The spout design is defective. If you buy this tea kettle you will regret it.

- Hard to add water
- Made with cheap material - Does not whistle loudly when the water is boiling. I will try to return to Amazon.

Hard to fill.
Kettle rocks when water is heating. Cheap materials, you get what you pay for. [...]

The price for the kettle is right- we paid about 10 dollars. But we paid the same amount again for shipping, and by the time it was all said and done, we had paid a lot of money for a very lightweight kettle with a small dent in it. I could have gone to a local store and bought a better-quality kettle for the amount I paid for the kettle plus shipping. Before purchasing, check the shipping price.

What whistle?,

While this kettle certainly is capable of boiling water, it feels very flimsy, it doesn't allow you to easily see how full it is (just the spout to fill and empty it) and the whistle barely works.

I found the tea kettle to be very cute. However, there is no real way to wash the inside unless you buy some type of liquid cleaner, but I guess since you only put water in it, there is not much concern about this. But it is very nice. I would recommend for any college student that wants to save money on a nice tea kettle, or if you are looking for a deal on a black appliance (if your kitchen colors include the color black). :-)
Thank you Amazon.com!

I agree, this kettle has a very weird spout design. Hard to fill and dangerous to pour boiling water from. It ALWAYS spills. No matter how hard you try not to. Would not suggest this product to any one, in fear that they might burn themselves.
I need to correct my review. If you rest the spout of the kettle on the side of your cup, it will not spill.

Ekco Tea Kettle,

My old tea kettle lost it's little lid, so it didn't whistle any longer. I used it like that for quite some time, before I diligently searched all my local stores for a simple, inexpensive whistling tea kettle. No one had one. So I was naturally quite excited to find the inexpensive Ekco Tea Kettle on Amazon. It has a lid covering the pour spout, so little things don't accidently fall into the kettle. And I can boil water in it (boiling water is a must for fussy tea drinkers). Unfortunately, the little lid does not seal well, so the whistle is more like a weak asthmatic wheeze that I can't hear, unless I'm bending over the stove with my ear to the kettle. So, if you don't care about the whistle and want an actual tea kettle, the Ekco is okay.

I bought this to replace a tea kettle that does not have a stay cool handle. The description specifically said that the handle stays cool to the touch. Well, the first time I used it I grabbed it with my bare hand (it said it stays cool!) and guess what? it was HOT. I burned my hand. I am returning this item.

We purchased this and had no problem with design, looks, etc. It whistled fine, but the problem turned out to be a leak along the seam. We did not discover this til after a week when we noticed the sound of the water hitting the burner, and then I tried special epoxy to seal the seams and that just made a mess. Sooooo, I would suggest you try this out right away to check for leaks. Since the first one was a mess and we couldn't find anything like this locally, we ordered another one. This works fine, no leaks, whistles fine and we whistled happily ever after.
