This review is from: El Barrio (Amazon Instant Video)
"El Barrio" is a documentary of people who live and work in the Centro Historico, the center of Mexico City and a district where the traditional Mexican street life still thrives.
Although the producer chose an interesting subject for her documentary, the movie is marred by nonprofessional filming and editing. Too much of the film consists of someone holding a camcorder while walking through the street and randomly pointing the camera at things -- the effect is a bouncy picture that looks like an amateur home video, and it's impossible to make out any details. Definitely not what you would expect when paying for a movie rental! The camera calms down during the interview sections, but some of the interviews are cut too long and we end up with 10 minutes of rambling. Although some of the subjects interviewed are fascinating and will bring a smile to anyone who enjoys meeting unusual people, I am unable to recommend this film for anyone who doesn't have a particular interest in Mexico City. |
