5.0 out of 5 stars THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF DISCO, July 3, 2005
This review is from: El Coco Cocomotion (Audio CD)
A lot is misunderstood and overlooked regarding the phenomenon called Disco.
I guess it's easier and more profitable to perpetually recycle the same top 40 songs and market it as just Afros, platform shoes and disco balls, but arguably, it was more of a social revolution than just a product and disposable trend. The music really did capture the contrasting moods of the times.

Before the Saturday Night fever phenomenon made it ok to shake your booty alone in public, El Coco (helmed by studio production wizards Lauren Rinder, W. Michael Lewis and Merria Ross), were spreading their eccentric brand of
tongue-in- chic dance music to bars and discos all over America.

Most of it was way left of what today's radio fed consumers would qualify as Disco but this gang laid the ground work with their keen sense of playfulness and terminally minimal productions. From their 'speak easy' chic image to their funky space age style instrumentation, they innovated a sound that has been copied by many of their peers and sampled by today's loop happy dance music brigade.

These three songs were the among first 12" vinyl disco singles released during the mid '70s by west coast indie label AVI
who were as experimental as they were prolific with their vinyl releases during the birth of the emerging new phenomenon of Disco and the 12" Disco single.

Rinder & Lewis were an in house production crew that cranked out numerous singles and LPs under the El Coco moniker as well as 2 LPs under thier own names. Not to be forgotten is Merria Ross who co-wrote and co- produced most of these gems (including these 3 songs) as well. Never to recieve the limelight, accolades and mainstream success that other artists were more fortunate to endure, El Coco will always be known to true hard core Disco fans as pioneers and the original alchemists of Disco music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delighted to own this disco classic jam!, February 3, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: El Coco Cocomotion (Audio CD)
I remember back in the 70's when "LET's GET IT TOGETHER" and "COCOMOTION" was the JAM!!You couldn't resist doing the hustle when "COCOMOTION" was playing.I never grow tired of this song with it's feel good fast tempo beats and violins."LGIT" is at a slower pace with it's sexy, raw yet sophisticated clarinets playing."MONDO CIRCUS" the last track on this CD is okay(I can do without it). This CD is "SO HOT" that strangers stop me in the street to find out where I purchased it.El CoCo is a cherished disco collection and in my opinion "EL COCO is still JAMMING"!!!
