Editorial Reviews

Who better than Clint Eastwood to represent "El Hombre" (the man). Relive some of his greatest roles through theme songs from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly," "For A Few Dollars More" and "A Fistful of Dollars". Out-of-print and now available for the 1st time on CD.

I remember hearing this as a kid, and was one of the main reasons I took guitar lessons.

Tommy 'Snuff' Garrett and the gang always worked their best magic when they stayed within their genre, that is, Southwestern/Mexican flavored instrumentals, populated with graceful guitar work and buttery soft trumpets and trombones. There's no doubt 'El Hombre' is one of their best efforts. Featuring the title themes from the Clint Eastwood westerns "the Good, The Bad and The Ugly", "A Fistful of Dollars" and others, along with some tried and true standards like 'Magic Trumpet' and my personal favorite, the old Perez Prado classic, 'Patricia'.

The only reason I give it 4 stars is due to Toucan Cove's sloppy transfer and production values. A couple of the tunes have slight drop-outs, not severe, but enough to notice. Some of the others, when the music first starts, the first couple of seconds sound a bit muffled, like when you have the music cued too close to the start on a tape player and hit 'play'. This legendary album deserved a better CD edition than this. But still better than my scratchy old LP's.
