El Masacre Se Pasa A Pie es una novela de denuncia. Es la historia de la muerte de miles de haitianos quienes, por orden de Trujillo, fueron asesinados sin tener en cuenta sexo o edad. Con el pretexto de que los haitianos entraban a territorio dominicano vadeando los ríos para robar reses o lo que había en los conucos, un grupo de maleantes dominicanos fuertemente armados fueron enviados a la frontera con el fin de asesinar en forma masiva a los que buscando trabajo del lado dominicano de la isla se aventuraban a un mundo donde la política oficial les rechazaba. La cédula, el documento de indentificacion de los dominicanos, era el pretexto, el primero de ellos. Grandes masas de haitianos eran llevados lejos de las aldeas para matarlos. En largas filas iban los negros mansamente, o aterrados: viejos, jóvenes, mujeres con niños cargados y otros de la mano, jóvenes de ambos sexos. Pero esas filas van desapareciendo y los guardias que van por los caminos en busca de nuevas víctimas, no los encuentran. ¿Habrán ido a Haití? -Habrán cruzado el Masacre, el río limítrofe que llevaba desde siempre el nombre del suceso? No habían huído, estaban muertos ya, tirados debajo de los árboles, al borde de los caminos o putrefactos en el río.

I read this book years ago when I was 13 years old and it really touched me it talks about how the dominican dictator Trujillo ordered a mass genocide of Haitians in the borders of Dominican Republic and Haiti. This book is a perfect companion with E. Andicat book The Farming of Bones. This is a must read.
