Book Description

November 2004
It is 1881. El Paso, the wildest border town in an untamed Texas, is at a crossroads. A booming sin city crawling with corrupt politicians and gunslick outlaws, the town now faces its greatest challenge: the savagery of the notorious Banning Brothers.

Dallas Stoudenmire is the marshal El Paso has hired to bring a quick end to the Bannings' reign of terror. Bloodshed erupts as the Bannings hire an assassin to send Stoudenmire to an early grave. Now the former Texas ranger will rely on nerves and a quick gun to save his own life-- and bring swift justice to a desperate town...

About the Author

Matt Braun is a fourth-generation Westerner, steeped in the tradition and lore of the frontier era. His books reflect a heritage rich with the truths of that bygone time. Raised among the Cherokee and Osage tribes, Braun learned their traditions and culture, and their philosophy became the foundation of his own beliefs. Like his ancestors, he has spent most of his life wandering the mountains and plains of the West. His heritage and his contribution to Western literature resulted in his appointment by the Governor of Oklahoma as a Territorial Marshal.

Braun is the author of forty-one novels and four nonfiction works, including BLACK FOX, which was made into a CBS miniseries. Western Writers of America awarded Braun the prestigious Golden Spur Award for THE KINCAIDS.

From AudioFile

This classic Western has it all, bloody violence, rape, murder, and a love story. Marshall Dallas Stoudemire is hired to bring an end to the vicious Banning brothers' reign of terror in the border town of El Paso. Jim Gough's Texan accent and slow, deliberate delivery are perfectly suited to the novel. The occasional sound effects of gunfire and crowd noises add realism and drama to round out the presentation. Gough's male voices are well suited to the story, and, fortunately, little female dialogue is included. Gough's pacing is flawless, and his smooth delivery is engaging. 3.0 out of 5 stars greasers?, February 12, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: El Paso (Mass Market Paperback)
what the hell? greasers? c'mon. it diminishes any credibility and realism this book had any chance of achieving. i can understand having a character use the word within the context of the story, but to use it in the book description . . . well, it's tasteless. like a bowl of caldo cooked with cardboard.

el paso, tx
