5.0 out of 5 stars HOT HOT HOT
If you loved The Godfather series and have been waiting for the next big family saga, your wait is over. El Patrón is certain to top the bestseller charts and be this year's big beach read! The book is definitely as HOT as the cover.

I thoroughly enjoyed every page of El Patron. I liked the characters in the book - devious and cunning! The story is life like and makes a good read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who Will Be The Next El Patron?, April 24, 2010
This review is from: El Patrón (Paperback)
I was having one of those weeks in which every book I picked up flew across the room somewhere at its halfway point. Nothing could catch my interest and hold it.. till El Patron arrived in the mail. Perhaps I needed a break from historical fiction or just a change of pace. Whatever my problem was, my week of bad 'n' boring books was cured.

El Patron is kinda like a telenovela and I don't normally do these books, but this one was so well told I found myself hooked and salivating for the next juicy tidbit of scandal. It begins with two major drug lords, also partners in crime, Antonio and Javier. The book is about these two men (and the evil Emilio, brother to Antonio) and the women they love or betray who love or hate them back. There are affairs, deaths, illegitimate children, and women plotting revenge as the next generation is born. The next generation includes a small time drug dealer in Los Angeles, an equestrian, a priest, an artist, a model, and out of these siblings and cousins, there are at least three men coveting and vying for the title of El Patron. By the end of the novel, Antonio and Javier have so many people plotting revenge against them that there is no telling who the next El Patron is going to be or even if the illegal family business is going to survive. Someone is going to be their downfall.

The novel visits Mexico, Colombia, Los Angeles, the Bahamas, and even Paris briefly. The characters all have both likeable and unlikeable traits, the exception being Emilio. (Nothing likeable about him!) No one is made too good to be true and sometimes, readers will even find themselves rooting for one of the sexy bad boys. Something I really liked about this author's writing style: no boring, unnecessary descriptions about beaches and trees.

My one complaint is that at times I couldn't figure out how old people were. Their ages are very vague as the parts are divided by quite a few years. You know whatever is occuring is occuring between 1989 and 1993, but is the character 13 or 16?

A good read for when one just wants to settle down with something fun and scandalous.

4.0 out of 5 stars El Patron, March 15, 2010
This review is from: El Patrón (Paperback)
About the Book: El Patron by Michelle Scott is a family saga unlike anything I have ever read. Marta, a poor young woman in Costa Cayeres, Mexico in 1969, falls in love with the wrong man... a very powerful and influential man. This book spans the 30 years following their disastrous love affair and the two families that are intimately connected. Drug cartels, murder, intrigue and romance all play a part in the lives of Marta and the young son she conceives out of wedlock. The author does a wonderful job of developing each character's personality throughout the story and really highlights the struggle of these two powerful families to balance family loyalty and ruthless business practices.

About the Author: Michele Scott is the author of the Wine Lover's Mystery Series. She lives in San Diego, California with her husband and three kids, their dogs, cats, and horses. To learn more about the author you can visit her site at [...].
