A fantastic instrumental indie album.,

El Ten Eleven's debut album is fantastic. They have a very unique and fresh sound comprised almost entirely of bass and drums. Aside from having a unique set up, bass player Kristian Dunn takes further steps toward a unique sound by using a handful of looping and octaver pedals with fantastic results.
The songwriting is also fantastic. To me, it's a sound I have been looking for and couldn't find until now. It's an upbeat brand of overlapping, rythmic post rock. I definitely reccomend it!

I orginally heard about this band on woxy.com and I loved what I heard. I actually listened to this for the first time on the way to the airport and the entire album is great. It is really a chill beautiful album with a feel good vibe.

An Amazing Album,
This review is from: El Ten Eleven (Audio CD)
I highly recommend this album to anyone that is even a hint of a fan of post modern rock, or anyone who just wants something chill to listen to. From the first song to the last, I loved it. The sound of El Ten Eleven can be described as a cross between the meaningful and emotional riffs of Explosions in the Sky and the spunky synthetic sound of Ratatat. El Ten Eleven is just as excellent as both.

who cares about cover art?,

Yeah, so it's not an L-1011. Not that anyone would base historical airline research on Indie band cover art...
I agree with the *other* two prior reviewers. Only thing I have to add is that no matter how many times I listen to it, I can't get used to the end of "Bye Mom". Still, not enough of a negative to dock a star.

El Ten Eleven: S/T (Vinyl),

Initially when searching for the item, El Ten Eleven's self titled album was listed under Vinyl. But when I got to further stages in ordering it failed to mention anywhere that it was a vinyl so I became a tad worried. Fortunately the price was remarkably cheap so I had to go for it. Even the electronic receipts dismissed the information about it being vinyl. Thankfully, it Was vinyl.
Sounds great, bent corner, but maybe that was during transportation or during package opening, but no matter to me. Overall, terrific find

El Ten Eleven- what does that evoke for you? No, it's not the new hours for Taco Bell (aren't they 24 hour now?), but the name of an indie rock band duo cranking out perhaps some of the most chill music I've ever heard in a long time. If you like the instrumental workings of Explosions In The Sky or The Six Parts Seven, yet want some tunes that are a bit catchier and shorter, I can't imagine you NOT liking this album! And it's amazing how much creativity and talent that can come out of two dudes! The bass lines are pleasantly prominent and rich, with incredibly sweet guitar looping and delectable drumming. A cohesive record it is, with very happy songs and things that just spiral around your head. It's the length of an EP, only about 7 songs long (the 2 under 2 minutes long don't really count, in my opinion), yet there's no feeling of waste! This is a proud album by an incredible pair making a name for themselves, initially from the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar. So take out your tacos or whatever and just relax to 35 minutes of a fluent journey- that's all you'll get, and it's a pretty good deal! Little fun fact from our friends at Wikipedia- the album cover shows a Boeing 727, not a Lockheed L-1011. Sorry about your irony :P

El Ten Eleven is two guys, a guitar/bass player who plays with loops using a pedal and one of those guitar bass combo instruments, this indeed works out and looks amazing live. The other guy is of course the drummer who has an electric set with his regular set to produce a few of the sounds, however studio craftsmanship this cd is not. It can all seemingly be played live just by these two people, that is impressive.
As a singular object, any one track longer than two minutes could be used as a point of reference for their GOOD song. As a whole, the album lacks transition and isnt really an album with a beginning or end ( though the last track tried) but just a collection of ideas. El Ten Eleven however does make enjoyable music, and they do have creative ideas that do work for the most part. I recommend this album just as much as I recommend just downloading random mp3's from the band from itunes. But if your looking for an amazing experience, their isnt one to be found. But if your looking for a chillout record to put in once a month this is it.

any of the above bandnames mean anything to you?
if so, you will find that L 10 11 hew to the lighter/happier side of the post-rock/instro-rock dialectic. very pleasant. very by-the-numbers, however. mogwai are WAY more intense, but if you want something to ease the pain of dusting yr furniture or scowering the bath, this is it. i know that sounds dismissive, and Bar None is a very venerable label...but prettiness, in this genre, is NOT ENOUGH. now, here are a few recommendations of transcendental stuff that is out there these dark days: YO LA TENGO, THE BLACK WATCH, ROBYN HITCHCOCK, and MOGWAI!!!!! |
