Each book is one tale, May 20, 2002
This review is from: El patito feo (Troquelados clasicos series) (Paperback)
Just to clarify - each 16 page book is *one* story, although there are 28 stories in the series. The words are in big clear type, nice for early readers. This is the Ugly Duckling (in case you are, like me, an English speaker, buying a gift).

Springboard for Discussion, January 13, 2008
This review is from: El patito feo (Troquelados clasicos series) (Paperback)
European folk tale. Elementary. This particular version would be good for any elementary school aged child. The illustrations could work for all ages. The double story in English and Spanish and moderate size print help it work for a little older child than typically expected.
Summary
The ugly duckling--who is different--turns out to be a beautiful swan, except there's no illustration of the beautiful swan at the end. There are some elements added, which I don't remember, such as the farmer rescuing him from the broken ice. The story is simple, emotional, with a hopeful ending.
Illustrations
Cute and expressive cartoon style.
English Language Learner Application
The story is in English and Spanish. I discovered that many English language learners know these stories and are delighted to hear something familiar. With this book, there is the opportunity to discuss the pain of being different.
