4.0 out of 5 stars At last someone who points at the "idiots" that lead us
I loved this book. It's "in your face" and fun style makes it a very easy to read book. Its message is one that Latin-American desperately needs to spread. Finally someone points out, one by one, "the idiots" and their "idiot acts" (our presidents and their populist policies)

The author does an in-depth review of the errors in which Latin-American presidents...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is just right wing propaganda./Libro sin valor lleno de propaganda a favor de la sumision al FMI.
I read the original version of this book published by these propagandists under the same title many years ago. I can say the text of this "book" is just a bunch of right wing propaganda written by men who are part of the "elite" of the countries they come from. During the 90's people like Vargas Llosa, who failed to get elected as president of Peru campaigned as the one...

This review is from: El regreso del idiota (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
I loved this book. It's "in your face" and fun style makes it a very easy to read book. Its message is one that Latin-American desperately needs to spread. Finally someone points out, one by one, "the idiots" and their "idiot acts" (our presidents and their populist policies)

The author does an in-depth review of the errors in which Latin-American presidents are incurring. He does a good job of integrating easy-to-understand economic indicators, contrasting geographies and historic periods.

When I read the part on Chavez (the main target of these "idiot-seekers") it shocked me how accurate the information was, and how clear authors portray it. I've lived in Venezuela until 2 months ago (had to emigrate due to the increasing communist environment).

I gave it 4 stars as it is not particularly my ideal writing style (long phrases and repetitive paragraph)

5.0 out of 5 stars Un "must" para todos aquellos que se interesan por entender a Latinoamérica, October 17, 2007
This review is from: El regreso del idiota (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent !!! Enlightening. Mandatory reading for those who seek true reasons for the LA situation, October 7, 2009

This review is from: El regreso del idiota (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

This book is extraordinary. If you're looking for real reasons that explain why Latin America just can't overcome underdevelopment, it is a mandatory reading. Keep in mind only Africa is behind Latin America in this department. It's sad others criticize this book just because it portraits a different perspective of the situation, presenting true facts, not just simple dissenting opinions.

The book is considered "rubbish" by others because the author concludes that Latin America's problems are the result of its own incapacity to deal with poverty, dictatorships, populism, etc. More importantly, the author provides evidence that in most countries from Latin America, more and more politicians are always working to preserve the "Status Quo", usign populism as a mean for self benefit.

For many years, latin americans have been told that underdevelopment of the region is the product of the United States "imperialism" politics -very convenient argument for politicians-, so this is an opportunity to find out which are the real reasons, from the perspective of a cuban in exile.

5.0 out of 5 stars DESCRIBE MUY BIEN AL IDIOTA, June 27, 2007
This review is from: El regreso del idiota (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)

4.0 out of 5 stars Excelente portraying of latin american populists governments, June 7, 2007
This review is from: El regreso del idiota (Spanish Edition) (Paperback)
I enjoyed a lot the description of how latin american countries usually continue to fall for the "idiot" mostly because of the roots imprinted by years of populism and oppression.

It's very accurate with the reality of a lot of countries in the region, but the hope appears in the new age populists or how the author's name them the vegetarian lefties...

Good to have a reflection on what path we want our region to take.

Excellent presentation of the reality we are facing in today's free world society where members of our society are taking advantage of the poors and misinformed population. Freedon of speech and free enterprise is the oportunity for every country to improve themselves. This book prove this concept. I recommend also to read "Cuentos Chinos"
