About the Author
Chester Higgins Jr. is the author of four books of photography. Mr. Higgins has been a staff photographer for the New York Times since 1975, and his work has appeared in Look, Life, Time, Newsweek, Fortune, Ebony, Essence, and Black Enterprise. His work was the topic of a PBS film and he is the recipient of grants from The Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the ICP, and the NEA.
Maya Angelou is a poet, historian, author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist, producer, and director. She has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award.
