4.0 out of 5 stars More adventures in the vast world of Morrowind. October 6, 2008
By Tom

I bought the first Morrowind for my kids a few years ago. They have really enjoyed it and this year they used their own money to purchase this expansion. I have not personally played, but my two teens have spent many hours in Morrowind and enjoy the game immensely. Morrowind is a vast world you can spend many hours exploring.
One note, Morrowind has "issues" with Windows Vista. There are fixes available on the web if you search for them but all are a little difficult and gameplay may still be effected. It took us several days of tinkering to finally get things set up so the game was playable. Don't be suprised if you can't play this on a Vista PC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good (but easy) sandbox RPG December 28, 2011
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Morrowind was the first sandbox, huge, open ended RPG game I played. This was many years back and it was kinda of a shock for me that someone would develop so much content in a video game. Nowadays the graphics are outdated, the mute characters potentially annoying and just like any other huge game, you just have enough at some point (after months of playing it, in my case).

The good: very deep background story/universe, it rivals a good fantasy book the amount of lore and information you can get from the game dialogues, quests, places and books. Lots of places to explore, lots of things to do, lots of items to discover, lots of quests. Being able to turn into a vampire or werewolf adds flavor. The Bethesda signature skill system (skills automatically advance if used) is interesting but I can't say that it's better than what other RPGs do. Both work IMO.
The bad: very easy combat, I don't remember being scared of dying in any encounter, also, too many ways to game the system.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best there ever was February 11, 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is my all-time favorite game. No other game has so fully grabbed me, entertained me, and seeped into me the way that this one did. I still have dreams about this world almost a decade later. You owe it to yourself to dive in head-first and experience the incredibly full world of this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still My Favorite Of the Series September 8, 2013

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
It's dated now compared to "Skyrim", but I continue to pull this out and play occasionally. If you haven't played an Elder Scrolls game before, it's a huge open-ended RPG in which you can go anywhere and do anything, even ditching the main quest entirely. The setting is unique and can't be pegged as "fantasy England/Rome" or "fantasy Scandinavia" like the other games, and it has a complex history revealed through in-game books with contradictory views, and through countless side-quests and hidden factions. That's one of the best things about the game. There's a lot going on, not just the bad guy's plot.

This edition comes with two expansions. "Tribunal" was just okay for me and breaks the main story a bit by practically handing you some great light armor before the gameplay or plot justifies it -- I'd throw it out for roleplay purposes. "Bloodmoon" adds a whole interesting landmass with yet another different environment (revisited years later in "Skyrim: Dragonborn") and story.

There's a huge modding community for this game. Check out the Morrowind Graphics Extender especially to update the graphics/draw distance to nearly "Oblivion" standards, a tweak to enchanted armor to remove the "plastic wrap" graphics effect on them, and gameplay tweaks like automatic magic recovery and a better leveling system.

Definitely worth playing, even if you don't bother with mods.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS IS A GREAT GAME!!! October 25, 2009
I have no idea why Morrowind got a really bad review, but it is, for sure, the one of the best games I have played. Obviously, the game's graphics are a bit outdated, but it's free roam world is what makes it fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars REQUIRES STEAM! September 18, 2014
Verified Purchase
I ordered this because it said it was the DVD-ROM version. Though it does come with a disc, STEAM is REQUIRED to play. This is not what I was looking to buy because I do not want to use steam, but want the full version of the game on a disc! This should be something that is advertised openly on the page so people know!
