5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth it
When I first went to Mournhold, site of the Tribunal expansion, I was a bit disappointed. After all, it appears to just be a single city, roughly the size of Balmora and arguably less interesting! 3.0 out of 5 stars Gets a little tedious - not for children
Never have I played such a visually stunning and impressively massive game. It is just enormous. There are so many places to go and people to talk to it's incredible. That said this game lacked a little something. As much as it was fun to complete quests and roam the picturesque landscape it really got repetitive after a while. All the characters stood pretty...

This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
When I first went to Mournhold, site of the Tribunal expansion, I was a bit disappointed. After all, it appears to just be a single city, roughly the size of Balmora and arguably less interesting! Suffice to say that this is NOT all there is to it. A bit of patience and a few quests will go a long way to fulfilling your every desire in regards to exploration, enemies, and rewards.

The expansion largely takes place in the city of Mournhold, but if you are journeying in normal Morrowind you will also see Dark Brotherhood assassins that will trigger the expansion plot. A bit of a warning- they do come quite early and can get pretty tough, so be careful where you rest. The expansion is definitely geared for higher level characters. There is a mercenary you can hire to tag along and help, but you'll need to be upwards of level 30 if you expect to play straight through the new areas. Of course, you don't have to do it all at once, and you can return to Morrowind at any time.

The lack of new items in the early part of the expansion can be disappointing. All I can say is to be patient, because there's certainly some VERY nice ones to be had. Mournhold also has some useful things for sale, such as adamantium weapons, glass armor, and a smith that will make glass, adamantium, or ebony armor if you bring him raw materials. There is also a museum where you can sell artifacts for up to 30k gold (if you aren't patient enough to use Creeper or Drunken Mudcrab) and a mage that sells unlimited quantities of grand, greater, and common soul gems.

The expansion includes at least 7 completely new creatures, as well as some very tough unique opponents. There are a lot of extremely cool new areas and puzzles, and dungeons that make the biggest ones in Morrowind look drab and puny. If you've liked the main game, then this expansion is a sure-fire buy. It adds a great deal of extra play, and is definitely worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars a nice surprise, November 17, 2002

This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
I wasn't terribly impressed with Morrowind when it first came out. I think I was a victim of all the hype and expected the world from the game. Months have passed and on a whim I bought this expansion pack. Going back to Morrowind has been a gas. They've fixed the issues with the journal and I find myself really enjoying the game.

The expansion pack fixes issues and adds enough content to make this a really compelling game. I'm back in Morrowind and recommend this to anyone.

If you bought the game when it came out but found it under whelming, it's time to go back and give it a second try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Niceley designed add-on without a doubt, April 13, 2003
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
I am going to make this review short. Tribunal is an excellent addition to morrowind. And better yet, even like Unreal Gold, it's built into morrowind. Which is just plain awesome. New locations, items, allies, enemies, and just plain ordinary characters interestingly and beatifully designed and fun to interact with have been deisgned in tribunal. Although the expansion pack is a bit small, (which why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars), it is a great addition to morrowind, and I cannot wait till the bloodmoon expansion pack comes out.(I also got decent frame rates in areas of tribunal), I reocmmend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars it's great, December 8, 2002
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
if you like morrowind, then there's no reason not to get this.

it appears small at first, but when you get into it, it really lets loose. i don't want to spoil anything, but when you get into exploring the sewers, you'll REALLY know what your character is made of.

however, i finished the main quest in like 3 days.. so it is kind of short, but i'm still not finished with Morrowind proper, and i now have some pretty sweet toys to help me along thanks to Tribunal. and i do keep going back to Mournhold just because there's so much to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelent expansion, too short though, February 18, 2003

Tribunal is an excelent expansion to the already gorgeous Morrowind. Mournhold is truly a sight to see, and the new quests and items are reason enough to buy this expansion.

What really turns me off is the length. I don't know if it's because my char was already uber-high-level when i installed tribunal, but altough the enemies were harder, it wasn't that difficult to pass. If bethesda would have made the quests harder to beat OR the entire new plot longer it would have been better.

What it does add is a new dimension to the replayability. My first char was a combat oriented adventurer, so i could train whatever skill i desired. Now I'm replaying it with a Stealth-oriented char, and I'm still discovering new things I never knew with my first char. If you add to that that there are new items, armor types and quests, the fun is still there even when you play it a second time.

All that said, this expansion is worth the money, period.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good conclusion to Morrowind main quest, August 18, 2003

This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
Being that Morrowind is one of the best games I've ever played, I thought I would give Tribunal a try. Glad I did. This is not simply a Morrowind redux. Tribunal is smaller and centered around a single city, doesn't allow for much roaming, and doesn't have the variety of creatures, items, factions, and quests as the original game. But for an expansion, it certainly has enough. I thought the Tribunal main quest was quite interesting, especially how the underground parts of the city unfold as you progress and your role in some grand schemes becomes clearer. My warrior character, who started Tribunal at 33rd level, died many, many times, so there shouldn't be any lack of challenge for most gamers. The city itself is beautiful, and the quests more interesting than many of Morrowind's. Tribunal's main quest should be good for about 30 hours of gameplay, and the side quest should add several more. Due to the linear, concluding nature of this expansion, it will not have much replayability for many people. However, considering the current price, the fact that the expansion adds some nice shops and items, and many mods that you can download require Tribunal, this is definitely a worthwhile gaming experience and investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars elders scroll 3 tribunal expansion, February 20, 2003
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
My word can the game get any better? This makes me want bloodmoon now not later. Morrowind is an amazing gaming experience and I would recommend it for anyone looking for the experience of a lifetime. Do what you want to do when you want to and become anything you want to be. Tribunal just added more variety and quests to an amazing game. Don't be afraid to explore new areas cause you will need the experience as new game expansions come out. I played elders scroll on the xbox first, but the computer is just as fine. thanks for your time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal plotwriting, riveting gameplay, July 4, 2004
By
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Tribunal (CD-ROM)
I absolutely LOVED the Tribunal expansion for Morrowind. Some fans complained that the expansion was too "quest-orientated" and provided little opportunity to explore the backcountry. Well, I guess I've always loved the quests and hated aimlessly searching the outback for some obscure landmark, so Tribunal's mechanics suited me just fine.

Tribunal provides many features to enhance your Elder Scrolls experience. Most notably there is now an enemy lifebar, making gameplay much easier and enjoyable. Also, enemies and quests are generally considerably more difficult, and should be pleasantly challenging to the average player who has completed the original game's main quest. Also, now vendors have more money and you can sell some of your more expensive loot.

These are all nice features, but the "killer app" of Tribunal is the same as what set the original game apart from the competition: phenomenal storyline and plot-writing. The plot of the original game was so detailed, immersive, and epic that I often described Morrowind as not a game but a work of fine literature, in the same league as Lord of the Rings. Morrowind's storylines were known for their ingenious and unpredictable plot twists as well generally innovative dramatic development. That said, the plot for the main quest of Tribunal exceeded even that of the original game. If only Hollywood hacks had this kind of creativity and ingenuity; Tribunal is digital poetry. You will be drawn into a web of intrigue that will gradually build in crescendo until an absolutley shocking and thrilling climax that left me speechless, staring at the screen with a gaping jaw. It's similar to the feeling one gets from watching the season finale of your favourite prime-time soap, the kind full of shocking revelations. The surprise appearance and my subsequent killing of a certain end-game character (whom I won't spoil for you) was one of the most thrilling gaming experiences of my life. If all game developers took the same effort to loving craft the plotlines of their games, the movie industry would collapse.

Even though Morrowind is an older game, it still beats most of the new games out there.I purchased Oblivion first, which is a sequel to Morrowind, and it is the best game I have ever played but it is a lot easier to max than Morrowind. The number of quests is staggering in Morrowind!
