3.0 out of 5 stars TES III Bloodmoon
This expansion is required for some Morrowwind mods to be useable. Aside from that, I can't think of much more to reccomend it. You spend your time slogging through a frozen wasteland and fighting off one attack after another. Tribunal is small and crammed with various encounters and quests; this is like the Alaskan wilderness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Tribunal, June 19, 2003
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
This game should have been the first expansion pack. It makes Tribunal look like a joke. True, the game is a little buggy, but not as much as Morrowind was when it first came out. A good gamer saves often. It has lots of new enemies, weapons and armor. You can even influence the growth of a large mining settlement while you watch it grow from the ground up, and get your own estate there.

Graphics: They haven't changed much, but the addition of snowfall is a nice. It isn't like the ash storms, the snow can be blizzard-like or it can be big slow falling flakes, which makes the scenery look great. Some of the Nordic armor looks very sharp also.

Sound: Well, no great changes here. I haven't noticed any bugs either.

Story: In this expansion pack you can work for the enemy for a while, or stay with the good guys. The story has a point where you are infected with the werewolf disease automatically (instead of trying to become a vampire in Vvardenfell by fighting them and getting lucky), then given a choice to either become a werewolf or become one of the "Skaal".

Being a werewolf is different than being a vampire because people will treat you normally as a human, but at night you turn into a werewolf and people will try to kill you wherever you go. After 6 hours you will become a human again. A nice twist to this "infection" is that if anyone sees you turning into a werewolf, you will be known by everyone as the beast and attacked whether you are in human form or not.

This expansion is a great buy for fans of Morrowind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Expansions don't get much better, August 5, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
The Elder Scrolls: Bloodmoon is essentially a new landmass, situated north and west of the main continent in the game. You need Morrowind but don't need Tribunal to play it, and it does add the very important Tribunal journal fixes to Morrowind if necessary. The new landmass is Solstheim, and it's both large and detailed. The developers clearly put a lot of time and effort into this expansion, with a host of new objects and a frozen landscape that is truly a sight to behold.

The Bloodmoon story is separate from the other plot in Morrowind and Tribunal, and can be initiated and continued at your leisure. In case you haven't figured it out from looking at the box, it has to do with werewolves, and you do get the chance to become one. For those that want to be a monstrous villain but found being a vampire too much a pain, rest assured you will have that chance. There are multiple ways to get the werewolf disease- fighting werewolves, the main quest, and the Ring of Hircine. The last two will work even if you've played the main Morrowind quest and have disease immunity.

Bloodmoon is clearly designed for higher level characters. I would recommend being upwards of level 20 to start, and probably around 40 by the time you complete the main quest. Aside from the central story, there's plenty of side quests and normal exploration to be done, and tons of treasure to find. Much of this treasure is unique- there's a whole new set of silver weapons that are especially good against werewolves, new Nordic Mail heavy armor, Bear medium armor, and Wolf light armor. There's also some primitive stone, iron, and monster weapons that look cool but aren't that good unless you play with the editor. Additionally, there are a few unique weapons and armor to acquire, including a full set of Stalhrim ice gear and (possibly) the most powerful spear you'll see in the game. As with Tribunal you have the chance to make custom armor- Snow Bear or Snow Wolf, both of which require a certain number of pelts and a visit to the Thirsk Mead Hall. Lastly, a good number of new monsters are added, including pig-riding Ricklings, bears, and Spriggans. Some of these are quite tough, hence the level 20 recommendation.

The plot is interesting and has some non-linear features that make replay fun. You can join a new faction- the East Empire Company- and either build a colony or work to destroy it. You can also lay claim to a Nord mead hall by proving yourself in combat. In all, there are no less than three new houses you may call home, and added to your Great House stronghold this makes you quite the property owner in Morrowind.

The first thing you should do when you get Bloodmoon is to patch it. There are a few bugs fixed in it- one of them quite serious and that I had the misfortune of triggering. Other than this, I've had no technical problems with the game. Another possible issue arises with the number of trees on Solstheim. The Morrowind graphics engine isn't the most efficient, and all those fir trees require a huge amount of power to render. The recommended system requirements are an 800 mhz CPU and 32 MB video card. I can assure you that this won't get you the performance you want. If you don't have a good PC and graphics card, you'll probably have to turn down the view distance and resolution to get things running smoothly. Since Morrowind is all about looks, this can be a bit of a disappointment.

The short of it is, Bloodmoon is a killer expansion and anyone that enjoyed Morrowind shouldn't think twice about picking it up. Aside from the new areas and items, it opens up a whole lot of possibilities if you're acquainted with the Elder Scrolls Construction Set, and adds immensely to Morrowind's great replay value.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great expansion to Vvardenfell, June 23, 2003

This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
I found this to be a lot more fun than the Tribunal expansion for Morrowind. You get a new continenent (smallish) to explore that's a refreshing change for the sometimes gloomy Vvardenfell -- there's snowy weather and a Nordic theme to everything. Also, there are tons of places to explore, some great new weapons and armor, and I felt the side quests were a lot more engaging than Tribunal's. You can play the Bloodmoon main quest parallel to the Nerevarine main quest or afterward since the plot lines are completely independent. Finally, I found the game to be more stable (the core version changes to 1.5.1629) than the patched version of original Morrowind, and if you are nevertheless having crash-to-desktop problems you should check some of the many Morrowind sites out there for some tweaks to the game that may help. Altogether a good buy and plenty of fun :)

4.0 out of 5 stars !?!?!?!?! WHAT?, June 21, 2003

Not really (Thirsk, Solstheim) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
I have had no technical probs, s I don't know what that dude is talking about.

I loved the Dark Elves of Morrowind and Tribunal. Or I thought so. Now, I absolutely adore, which I hope means more than love, but probly not, the Nords.

Sick of the Dunmer? Sick of Mournhold? Sick of all the "establishment" of the previous games? Sick of the haughtiness? Then get Bloodmoon. You get to explore the new island of Solstheim (I wish it were a little bigger), and live among the native Nordic peoples of the land, as well as the new colonists. You can become a werewolf if you want. You can take your pursuits much farther from MW and Tribunal to Bloodmoon.

As I've played it so far, its been challenging for my level 72 character. It isn't all that I'd hoped for, but then again, I have only played about 6 hours of what is atleast a 40 hour game.

My advice: If you liked Morrowind, played Tribunal but were a little let down by it, then get Bloodmoon. If you loved Tribunal, get it too. If you've tried them, but arent too keen on the whole Elder Scrolls thing, or didn't like them regardless, then why are you reading this review?

Solstheim is truly a beautiful land. You should see it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great expansion pack sequel to the awesome morrowind, June 16, 2003
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
I'll start this simple and short:

Bloodmoon is much better and open-ended than tribunal, you are able to freely explore a whole new island with new whether system and terrain with new characters, armor, weapons, items, etc. And you can become a wearwolf or join the defense as one. (I did get poor frame rates in outdoor areas tho) The Elder Scrolls 3 is now a complete game and whoever buys The Elder Scrolls III: G.O.T.Y for XBOX this september is going to love it, especially RPG lovers! I highly recommend this for morrowind fans!

4.0 out of 5 stars Buy this instead of Tribunal, October 8, 2003
By
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
This is expansion is much more enjoyable than Tribunal, which is very claustrophobic. Bloodmoon gives you a new (large) island to explore, with an entertaining main quest and many interesting side quests. The graphics are great, and the falling snow made me feel chilled in the middle of summer.

There are a couple of small irritations. There were too many annoyingly aggressive creatures outside which made quick travel impossible unless you levitated (which I ended up doing). Of course you can't do this if you're escorting someone, which made those errands tedious. I also crashed while zoning quite a few times.

Overall, this is a worthwhile expansion pack that will add many more play hours to Morrowind.

5.0 out of 5 stars As if the original did make me enough of a slave!, September 6, 2003
This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
Morrowind alone is amazing, but now we have Bloodmoon! That's right, you get to be a werewolf! The main quest in Bloodmoon can be done as either a human or werewolf, and how you get to the end will vary slightly. The first time I did it, I stayed human. By the near ending of the quest, I was literally saying "whoa!" out loud to myself. I'm trying not to give anything away here, so stick with me! Bloodmoon is very hard, and sometimes very frustrating. Then you get near the end and you are SO glad you didn't give up. The last few quests have you running around feeling like your racing time, even though you aren't. My heart was in my throat. It was just awesome!

My boyfriend came over the next day and played through as a werewolf. The werewolf scenario was more frustrating for him. He found that being a werewolf, the quests were VERY hard and thus very frustrating. However, they were still pretty cool. And being a werewolf, you run around panting like crazy with tunnel vision like a wild animal! You can jump really high and such. Just running around is a kick.

The very last quest is extremely difficult, and will probably be very frustrating. Both I and my boyfriend have yet to beat it. It's worth it though. Bloodmoon really pulls you in!

Other fun stuff about Bloodmoon: snow, new monsters, new weapons, new stuff to explore, help build a colony, one line of quests even ends with you running the show and choosing where your own house at the colony will be built! Also, why not search for the fabled Soveigngard? The 'heaven' of the Nords!

4.0 out of 5 stars Snow, werewolves, and bears, June 20, 2003
By A Customer

This works fine on my computer. So far the plot could be better, but it's neat watcing the town get built. I had to go back and level up after getting mauled by a polar bear, but I'm looking forward to going back up there now that I've got some GREAT armor in an underwater cave near the south tip of Ebonheart. This expansion is worth it for the weather, textures, wolves, and bears. There are a couple of neat items, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this expansion, June 13, 2003

apparently, the 1st guy to review this isn't much of a morrowind fan. and it is NOT as buggy as he makes it seem. he is judging the game before ANY kind of patch is created. he wants games to be PERFECT the first time, no patches. This game has alot of new content. 2 ways to do one sidequest, a great mainquest, a werewolf sidequest, plus, bethesda has improved dreams, now theyre CUTSCENES. i admit, there are some problems, but werewolfism has yet to be eclipsed by mere bugs. i advise you to buy this, because a wave of usermade mods will probably improve your already awesome experiance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fans of Morrowind must play this., June 15, 2003

This review is from: Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind Expansion Pack: Bloodmoon (CD-ROM)
This expansion pack is better than Tribunal. It adds new areas on to the already huge environment. It requires Morrowind to play, but you should already own that. The graphics are bout the same, although really good. The music and sound effects are also high quality.

Morrowind allowed you to do things however you wanted. You could do literally thousands of side quests, or just go exploring. Tribunal (the first expansion pack)continuted that, and Bloodmoon does it even better. The story is easier to get into, and it is better written.

Combat in Bloodmoon is the same as it was before, although better magic and weapons become available. The enimies you face are harder, and more varied. Thankfully, Bloodmoon loads your save from Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, or the Tribunal expansion pack, so you can continue with your already leveled-up character. This is a single player RPG, but there is sometimes user content you can import into the game.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind was one of my favorite RPGs. Bloodmoon is a great expansion pack, and you should buy it if you own Morrowind and Tribunal. If you don't own any games in this series, or if you only own Morrowind, I would wait for the Game of the Year edition, coming this fall. It contains the original (Morrowind), both explansion packs (Tirbunal and Bloodmoon), plus bonus areas.
