I can't believe I'm the first person to review this cd. I had high expectations from this cd seeing how Bathtime with Loop Guru was awsome. Reading the previews for this and all the talk of it being Psychedelic really had me eager to get this but I would hardly call it really Psychedelic, though it has some riffs from early stones and beatles. Actually to think of Loop Guru doing a retro Psycedelic cd almost seems regressive for them since they are already waaaaayyyy out there. Yes, they seem to sample and loop the same stuff form previous recordings and maybe its about time for them to dump those files and look for new source material, but over all this is a pretty fun cd. The stand out tracks are the hypnotic slow durges later in the cd. Not as lush as previous recordings by LG but over all def worth the purchase. If you already are a fan of LG you must have this. Ah yes, what would one of my reviews be with out this reminder: be kind to animals don't eat them! Peace yaw!

Loop's trip into new territory is worth taking,
This review is from: Elderberry Shiftglass (MP3 Download)
I have been a big fan of Loop Guru for the better part of 8 years, Duniya and Amrita being my favorites. When I first heard selections from this on streaming radio, I would have never guessed it was by Loop Guru. Much to my delight this venture into 60s Beatles-esque psychedelia dovetails many of my favorite styles of music. The riffs are catchy and have a feel-good quality without sounding cheesy. Its upbeat and expansive, taking you easily into that happy place. The Asian influences of earlier Loop Guru endeavors are now distilled through 60s experimentations with the sounds and instruments of India. If I had any knock on this CD, it would be the quasi-philosophical, sound-effect laden spoken word passages between tracks. They are interesting to hear the first couple of times through and generally complement the music nicely, which is otherwise void of lyrics, but I see them getting old after a while. I still give this 5-stars, because the music tracks are just that good. One last note, I bought this using Amazon's MP3 download system for the first time: the price was less than half of the CD format, and setting up their download software was a snap. I'll be definitely looking for the MP3 option for future music purchases, though I generally prefer to own the physical CD media. |
