5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully realized February 9, 2012
Part fashion history, part homage to a mentor, Eleanor Lambert Still Here is an exquisite book about one woman who changed the profile of American fashion over many decades. Gorgeous to look at and engaging throughout, it chronicles the achievements of a remarkable lady. Some of Ms. Lambert's accomplishments are well known and part of the cultural landscape (think the International Best Dressed List) but others could be unknown to all but fashion insiders (for me the amazing description of the Versailles Exhibition). This is a fun book about a woman whose name may not have been on the marquee but who could be found behind the scenes for many a pivotal moment. Mr. Tiffany's respect and admiration for his subject shine through and his clear voice brings her to life.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best coffee table release of 2011, by far. February 9, 2012
When I buy a coffee table book (and to be honest, I buy far more than I should), I expect only one thing, to be wowed by the photos inside; what I don't expect is to be wowed by a powerful story as well. John A. Tiffany's "Eleanor Lambert: Still Here" more than succeeded in the former, as it is a beautifully designed, large format volume with an amazing collection of fashion photography, and I was more than pleasantly surprised by the latter- not content to merely be a lavish photo book, the author's relationship with this grand doyenne of fashion is explored, and her Zelig-like list of accomplishments are explained and celebrated in an entertaining and informative way. The book is a true education to fashion fans like myself, who may have heard of Eleanor Lambert in passing, but who had no real idea of this amazing woman's true impact on the fashion world at large.

I bought several volumes of "Eleanor Lambert: Still Here" to give away as holiday gifts to my fashionista friends and clients, and to a person, they were all enchanted by this incredibly beautiful and informative book; and my personal copy holds a place of honor amongst my other favorites on my own coffee table.

To sum up: Buy this book! I guarantee you won't be disappointed. In fact, my only caveat to this review is that the book should come with a warning label to lift with your knees, not your back, as I think it may be the heaviest book I've ever purchased! ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars For a "historian fashionista!" February 21, 2012
By Khadija
I am a self proclaimed "fashionista" and this book "Eleanor Lambert: Still Here" gave me a different view and respect for not only her as a fashion legend and icon, but American designers. The author not only spoke about this fascinating women's life but also made it more personal by involving bits of himself and his life. I found myself connecting with both people in small ways and ended the book aspiring to reach the achievements that Miss Lambert made. I highly recommend this book for people, ecspecially my generation (anyone in their 20's) to purchase this book. The groundbreaking advances and the industry that she essentially created is all explained and broken down in an elegant and informative way that only this book can do. I'm obsessed with building my own personal fashion library and this book has made an insightful addition!

2.0 out of 5 stars Fanboy book strikes out January 22, 2012
I should have known. How could there be a coffee-table book about a flack? Even the premier flack of the glamorous fashion business? The answer to that is embedded in the intro to this disappointing book: the author shopped his idea around for a while until some inexperienced publisher bit. Note to author: let your editors help you. When they tell you to keep your self-references to a minimum, listen to them. When you claim to be writing about an entire 80-year-career, include some bibliographic notes to sources before 1965. They know the book business like you know the flacking business. Note to publisher: hire an actual book designer who knows how to design for actual readers. I know, I know: my fault for expecting to be able to read and get information out of a coffee table book. Nonetheless, please, graphic designers, read up on how to set type so it can be read. Also, suggest that the author include scans of the old press releases. Wouldn't that have been fun? More fun than setting ye olde press releases in American Typewriter. Tired! I paid full price for this at a small bookstore. The book was sealed. I knew I shouldn't. All the signs were flashing DON'T. At least the small bookstore got a windfall.

The book came before it was promised and was in brand new condition in plastic wrap. Besides the fact that I am completely biased because the Author is one of my best friends from High School. So it is close to my heart. Fantastic in every aspect of the order. Thank you Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have If You Love Fashion! March 12, 2012

I found Eleanor Lambert: Still Here to be an absolute gem! In addition to being
filled with fashion eye candy, it's a great insight into the world of
fashion publicity and Ms. Lambert herself. It's a stunning coffee
table book that beautifully illustrates her fingerprint on the fashion
industry - I had no idea what an impact she had on fashion
and how greatly she elevated American fashion on a global scale. Her
entrepreneurial spirit is hugely inspiring and I'm quite envious that
Mr. Tiffany had the opportunity to work with her.
